I posted this in another thread, but the issue has popped up here. It's been said that CLM simply produces slow-starting teams. If that were the case, then why was LSU notorious for burying its opponents in the first half in 2005 and 2006...the first quarter specifically? I want to say in '06, LSU outscored its opponents some sick average of 28-3 in the first quarter, and that was Miles's second year on the job.
I decided to do the work for you and crunch the numbers. '06 LSU outscored it's opponents in the 1st QTR: 136 to 27 (3 TD's, 2 FG's). Averages out to (with rounding) 11 points 1st QTR (LSU) to 2 points 1st QTR (opponent). Only 4 teams scored on LSU in the first QTR in '06. The 1st time it happened was against Florida, the 6th game of the season.
That's what I was looking for...don't know where I got 28 from (that seemed a bit high). But yeah...that doesn't sound like a slow-starting, Les Miles-coached team to me.
No usually when you outscore the opponent by 3 FG's or 1 TD and a safety in the 1st QTR . . .you'd feel pretty darn good about yourself.
