Miles says 2013 offense could be his best

Discussion in 'The Tiger's Den' started by tigerchick46, Dec 19, 2012.

  1. Hilariously yet not surprisingly, this season isn't even over but we're already bitching about next year's offense. Classic.

No offense my fellow Tiger fan, but I just don't see it. Some skepticism can and SHOULD be expected with LSU's offensive output(no pun intended) since our NC season. It looks like you've been conditioned a bit to see negative where maybe none or, more appropriately, less exists than what you are interpreting. The negativity comes with the sky-high expectations and championship goals that LSU is in contention for just about every year. It's actually a side effect of winning and being a NC caliber football program. Get over it and enjoy it while it's here b/c it won't be here forever.

I would settle for an offense that could control TOP, consistently move the ball and score in the red zone. We look like the late '90s Cowboys relying on defense and FGs to win games.

OK, please explain what "Most Points Scored in a Season" means to you.
  5. Wait, what I'm I supposed to get over & enjoy, people being preemptively negative? I'm rather certain the meaning of what I said was lost on you.

I'm rather certain I addressed your post about "negative" Tiger fans. I can't really explain again w/out using pretty much the exact same words I used in my first post. I know that may sound like I'm being a smart ass and talking down to you. Please take my word for it that I am not. We'll hopefully just agree to disagree and move on.

From what I read, it sounds like we have a decent contingent on this board who are at least open to the idea that the Tiger offense got better from Gainesville to now and has a chance to continue on into 2013. I need to see that continue vs. a below average, at least among Top 25 competition, defense on Dec.31st. With a win, and the further growth of our passing game, LSU should start out next year in the top 5 again. I can understand, though, how one could meet Miles' comment on his outlook for next years offense with some trepidation. Hope and enthusiasm are status quo for fans heading into a season. Especially a program with the record of LSU's this century. Offensively, however, those dreams have gone wanting for the better part of the last 5 years, so I can understand some skepticism. The vibe I'm getting is more hope than despair as I've read this thread. That was my main point in response to your comment on "bitching." The only "bitching" I read was in regards to Miles' comments as it equated to offensive performance for that given year. That "bitching" was just a bit of skepticism. Perfectly understandable, IMO, for such offensive years as 2008, 2009, 2010(minus Bama and Cotton Bowl), the back half of 2011 and the front half of 2012. The passing game that is. Again, seems most are on board with a higher sence of hope for our passing game since, maybe, 2007? We won it all that year! Here's to being top 15 in the NATION in passing next year. I have faith. Do you?

The most obvious is that you can play 14 games in a season now compared to 12 under cholly Mac. So ppg is more relevant.

Not all points are from O, particularly last year, special teams and D make a difference. So even ppg is skewed because of avg starting position. Last years team had awesome ppg but we all know the O was average at best.

Than you have the issue of rules and offensive style of play in different eras.

LSU has played 14 games 3 times in school history. Are you saying Cholly Mac's teams had Defenses that didn't score? Special Teams with Zero Punt/Kickoff returns for TDs?

Cholly Mac coached LSU for 18 seasons & won 1 SEC Title. 9-3 team with losses to A&M, Notre Dame & Orange Bowl to Nebraska. LSU scored 289 total points that year.

If you can figure a way to turn 289 points into 540....good luck with that.

Last year's offense was average at best? Cholly Mac teams only scored 300 points 3 times in 18 seasons.
