Yeah thinking about it now, he does do that better, with the exception of the Xavier Carter touchdown pass in the NT game. In fact that is my main gripe about JR. Perhaps he has too much confidence in his arm and not enough in the speed of the receivers, but he either throws the ball at the feet of the receivers or too high. That spect of his game has gotten worse as the year as gone along, perhaps due to the wrist injury he suffered in the Florida game. Still not an excuse, hopefully he makes strides in it this off-season.
JR proved himself nimble enough to avoid sacks when the pocket collasped this year most of the time. And he did run for some first downs.
In the games in which he has played, he displayed better running skills than JR has. This is not a knock on JR because he does do a good job of moving in the pocket to avoid sacks, just IMO Flynn appears more mobile.
Was just curious. To me, he gives up on the receivers too quickly sometimes. Does not allow routes to develop. Takes off running in a panic.
Of course he did. He also flat out lied to the media when they asked him where Jessie Daniels was on Tuesday since he was not at practice. Told them they were nuts that he was out there. Then all the sudden the story comes out on Friday that he was hurt in a pile up in the Arkansas game and wouldn't play.
I dont know what good it does to hide the injuries. It sure didnt take Ga. long to figure out Daniels wasnt in the game.
this article only guarantees my belief JR is definitely out for the bowl game. Miles is a terrible bluffer. who wasnt aware addai would hardly play if at all in the SECCG. he may as well start saying they're out if they're healthy at this point. les miserables
So let me get this straight, Matt Flynn will never be Matt Mauck because they're two different people? Brilliant. You simply don't know that he will never be as successful as Mauck. Just like I don't know that he will. He may or may not, but neither of us can point to anything right now that is necessarily indicative of that. I guarantee you this, no one thought that the guy coming in to back up Davey in 2001 would lead us to the promise land. I do think that Fylnn may be able to help this team in more ways than some would think because of some things that he does differently than Russell. Based on what I heard from various 'sources' (media, etc.), Flynn always showed a more firm grasp of the offense than did Russell in practice. Whether or not that is/was true, I do not know. Maybe we'll find out on the 30th...
My point was the comparision from Matt Mauck to Matt Flynn were premature because they are two different QB's in two different situations. I don't know how successful he will be, nor did I insinuate that I did know. Flynn might know the offense better, but we have heard this for two years now and it hasn't materalized in playing time. Why is that? Don't quote me on this, but didn't Fisher say that Russell was the best QB he has ever had at reading the D and changing the play at the line? Obviously Flynn doesn't have that much of an advantage in the offense if this is the case. Even if Flynn does well in the bowl game, I do not think he would take Russell's starting spot. Russell has solidified the starting position with his play over the year. It hasn't been the flashiest, but it has gotten the job done, much like Mauck did in 2003.
Some food for thought. I'm willing to wager that this game is almost a pick-em or the Tigers will be a mild 'dog (+1 or +2) if Russell plays. They will be a 7 point 'dog if Flynn starts. The guys who set these odds usually aren't in the business to lose money.
