Mettenberger is struggling, and Les knows exactly what this is like. He has reverted back to his tried and true philosophy . . . run the ball and don’t let your quarterback cost you a win. When Mettenberger steps it up a notch, Les will likely air the ball more. He must. The formula for defending LSU has not changed in four years . . . stack the line and dare LSU to throw the ball. LSU must break the pattern this year . . . but not before Mettenberger can handle it, remember what happened with Lee.
It appears to me they are using the same play book that was used back in the 60's. Pass when 3rd and long. Not much imagination. But if the O'line doesn't block better than it has up to this point, Mettenberger will not get it done. He simply can't throw on the run from what I have seen. He's got the arm but if he has to scramble he appears somewhat un-coordinated and doesn't seem to feel the pressure from the back side. If the O'line can block the Tigers have a great QB, but if they can't he is average at best. Just my opinion.
We've actually been throwing on 1st or 2nd down, but when our receivers drop the ball, we're left with 3rd and long.
Brett, I agree with you completely, but, one can hardly finish expressing the thought before a critic will respond with: "I hope nothing changes! I love these undefeated regular seasons !! " How would you respond to someone who answers you with the response that Les does nothing but win, so, don't complain ?
Zone right... zone left... zone right... zone left... wr screen... zone left... zone right... zone left... zone right... zone read (with a passing QB)... quick slant...
I live in Houston, and he is known as one of the biggest busts and disappointments (if not the biggest) out of Houston and the surrounding areas high schools. It sucks, but, I can't defend him anymore, and the fact he was going to declare for the NFL draft last year, is even more pathetic. Just goes to show, you can have all the raw God given athletic talent in the world, but if you can't execute, and can't be coached, just a waste of a scholarship
