There is a balance to be achieved here. Clearly Nick's method made some sense in that he suffered far fewer practice injuries that his predecessors. Also staying on your feet allows a squad to recycle quickly and get more plays in a limited practice time. Nick obviously felt that it was more important for players to know and understand the system than to beat up on each other in practice. This is a common practice technique in the NFL. But it has also been noted that LSU has underperformed in early-season games in the Nick Saban era, especially the linemen who did not dominate their early opponents like they did later in the season. Perhaps this came from too little hitting in August practice and it took a few September games to toughen them up and get their heads straight. Miles' system may produce more practice injuries but it may also eliminate this tendency to be soft in the first couple of games. The key is proper balance between injury avoidance and hard-hitting practice sessions. These are college kids, not NFL professionals, and it may take more hitting in practice to prepare them for the season properly. But we must remember Dinardo who wore out his team with long, hard-hitting practices. He took a lot of season-ending practice injuries and his teams often didn't have "legs" on game day due to intense practicing. Let's just see how Miles' team performs in 2005 before making a call here.
The more Miles talks, the more he reminds me of Gerry Dinardo. I think LSU football is reversing course, dumbing down--players and coaches and methods. Frankly, I suspected a problem when he was hired, when one of his pluses was being "good looking", i did a double take wondering what kind of idiot was use that as a criteria to hire a college football coach. I predict a pretty good season this year 10-2 winning a major bowl and everyone's giddy about Miles and LSU, followed by 8-4, then 5-6, 4-7 (Dinardo land). Nobody hates saying that more than i do, cuz i love LSU football debest,
First off, it's Spring and more than likely, any injury due to contact will be healed up by the time Fall rolls around. Secondly, we struggled at times with tackling last year. Outside of Spears, Williams and perhaps Turner, there was not many consistant, sound tacklers. The opposition was constantly (so it seemed) getting 2-4 additional yards after contact. So in that light, I think this "live" session during practices is a good thing--gets the players to adopt the mindset of "plays not over until the runner is down". Sure, it has pros and cons to this philosophy, but I think the upside is greater than the downside.
You read things into his hiring that I didn't, that's for sure. Kind of makes me feel good that you don't believe in Miles and think he will end up a failure, I like being on the opposite side of someone that posts garbage.
first of all, ppl said the exact same thing about saban when he was hired. second, where did you get the idea that his looks had anything to do with his being hired? i think i trust skip just a tad more than that.
People wanted Saban GONE after the UAB game in 2001....that is a fact that I am sure many will never admit to but it was a reality.

I'd put your disrepsectful post right up there with those, I've edited about 5 posts in a few months for anything other than copying entire articles, but if you want to believe I'm a control freak go ahead. Like I said in my post, I'm happy to be on the opposite side of an issue with you.
Everyone knows Bear was just getting his money's worth! He did the samething that worked at Maryland (probation), Kentucky (probation), and Texas a$m (probation). Some traditions just take time to catch on (probation). PA-ROLL TIDE!
Saban was better looking than GD. I remember Saban's first year a caller called in after one of the games and asked what did we get for our money and all the radio guy could say was "A better looking coach". THe rest as they say is history. LM is living on credit or benefit ofthe doubt. Spring whatever is a week away. Maybe we will see something to start forming a better opinion at that time.
