Update: Another new/old tradition they are trying to start. Why not just let well enough be? You cannot just start adding stuff and call it tradition. Traditions aren't planned or created. They just happen. Apparently now, we're Army.

    Tiger roar, cannon's roar

Air Force Col. Ken Bankston, commandant of the LSU Corps of Cadets, said the corps will shoot off a cannon as the Tigers take the field for home games this season.

"The ROTC is starting a new tradition," he said. "We're reminding people that this is the 'Ole War Skule,' that LSU was a military school first, and ROTC was mandatory like at Texas A&M before it was phased out in the '70s.

"A lot of people in the stands will remember their days in uniform."

Bankston said the LSU Corps of Cadets will set off a World War II-era "pack" howitzer.

"It's a smaller kind of cannon that was pulled around behind a truck or a jeep," he said. "It's still a functional cannon. We just shoot it with a charge without a projectile in it.

"It's safe; it just makes a lot of noise."

    Agreed,
Great lets copy other teams and get a howitzer.
What a tradition that would be.

How many teams already use that kind of thing?

Why can't someone come up with something a little original?
Such as fireworks, there has to be something else? :dis:

Better yet... why keep coming up with new things to augment what is already a solid tradition with plenty of songs/cheers to fill up the game already.

Wait til you see the field Saturday with its new endzone and modified Tiger eye (smaller, less fading) at the 50 yard line. If Miles, NASA man and Skip want to make their mark, they can make it by winning another National Championship for LSU's faithful. But for Christsake, leave my Tigers and our traditions alone!

Maybe we should modify this a bit. Let's put the howitser inside a room off of the visiting teams locker room and fire it without warning during the coaches pregame speech. Then, as they are running out, Mike's roar will only add insult to injury.

Geeze, since we are doing this so that people remember that we are the 'Ole War Skule', why don't we just force our Cadets to don the Tiger Rifles Zouave uniforms for every game?

And when they win that national championship, every season afterward when they come to the student section & sing the alma mater, you can remember how awesome it was during the 05 season when LSU started that tradition & won the national championship.

You are a joke. Traditions start somewhere & why would you possibly be upset about adding more interaction with the student section from the players!??

Because what they are adding is bush league, fruity and totally unnecessary. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I also went to the meet and greet with coach miles in the east laville dorm.

He answered a bunch of intelligent and semi-intelligent questions from the 300 or so fans in there. My friend Laura Messer asked him if he would consider starting this tradition, for she thought it would add a good nice touch to the end of all our victories. He then asked us where the student section was in relation to the tunnel, and realized that it would be very easy to do on their way to the locker room. He said he already knew the words to the fight song, but had not even heard the alma mater, and asked if anyone even knew it. I was sitting right next to him and I told him that i knew it. He asked me to sing it for him and I nervously said the first line...and he egged me to continue on. By i got to the last line, everyone had joined in and after the "FOREVER L-S-U" there was one of those amazing silences that immediately break into applause. He patted me on the back and said that he liked the idea.

After the event was over I walked to him and asked him for a picture w/ him. I told him the he put me on the spot, and he responded with "son, i'm going to remember that for the rest of my life. I'll talk to the leadership council and have them do this. I think a new tradition would be a good thing."

Pretty sweet, huh? Students started the tradition....

oh yeah, tradition is something that just happens. :hihi:
