i doubt there has ever been an army that is not capable of cowardice or heroism depending on the circumstance. i seriously doubt that our european allies now are cowards. there is little reason to suspect that uk or germany are cowards. and generally, people think the french are cowards because of how fast germany made it to paris in wwii, but that was not because of cowardice. its great to have a big military, when you can afford it. otherwise, it may do the opposite of its purpose.

And that is the problem. We have a base system that is designed for a cold war military. We have domestic and international bases that are logistically obsolete, but they are still here because every Representative and Senator will fight to keep a base alive in or near their district.
I'd always heard it was Stormin' Norman that said that. I'd never heard otherwise. It's not that big a deal.
