Congratulations to Mr. Zapata. Glad to see there's at least one student at the Ole War Skule who's getting an education and using it to think. :laflagwav
I may be in the minority on this one, but this idea of having a CS Army battle flag in purple and gold LSU colors is a bad idea. No good can come of it. Much of the african-american student body at LSU associates that flag with slavery and oppression. I believe that they are wrong to do so, but I would respect their view enough to keep my CS Army battle flag away from the LSU campus and Tiger stadium. I have explained in the other thread on this topic why I make this exception to my normal position that people need to be thick-skinned (especially Godless Atheists). PS I have a great idea! Why not purchase a flag just like the one in my signature and fly it at LSU games? It is the flag of the independent Republic of Louisiana, and has never been used by racist extremists or civil rights opponents! What is the fascination with the "Rebel Flag" anyway? Do people actually realize that they don't even know what they are flying? The CS Army battle flag was square shaped. The rectangular shape, which is what the shape is for most "Rebel Flags", was actually the CS Naval ensign.
The swastika was a peaceful symbol prior to the German adoption. There are several movements to get it reinstated to its pre-Nazi representation of peace, spirituality, and sensuality. What is to one group is something else to another. Doesn't mean it shouldn't exist in the world. "The almost universally positive meanings of the swastika were subverted in the early twentieth century when it was adopted as the emblem of the National Socialist German Workers Party. Since World War II, most Westerners see it as solely a fascist symbol, leading to incorrect assumptions about its pre-Nazi use and its current use in other cultures." http://www.answers.com/topic/swastika
I have nothing at all against the confederate battle flag. But I also dislike this purple and gold version and I never want to see it at LSU games. Why: Because the rebel flag in SEC sports is an Ole Miss thing.
