2 Rebs arrested, suspended Jamal Pittman, Ken Bournes charged in Memphis incident http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040720/SPORTS030103/407200329/1025 lefire:
I wonder if there is an unwritten rule that every colleg ein America has to have at least 2 players arrested this summer?
You know. College kids have gone to bars for many years. Yep, even some of the LSU players from the days of good ole Billy Cannon. Many of them had too much to drink at one time or another. Some even got into fistfights. But why would ANY so called college material young student have to carry a gun? What kind of place are they hanging out at? A sec linebacker and a sec running back??????? You would think that these two would not fear anyone in any normal bar room. Why carry a gun? If you are in such fear for your safety that you pull a gun, then why didn't you use it? Pittman has a $50,000 bond on him. The second guy has a $1000 bond. I say find out the story and find out quick. If one or both need to go----so be it. Give the schlorship to a yound med student that will appreciate it.
Here is an update on what happened. I don't see how they can claim self defense on this one, but looks like they are going to try. Col Reb hit this one right on the head, bar fights are one thing, but walking around Beale Street with a 9mm with a laser scope is ridiculous. These guys need to go, regardless if they are from Ole Miss, LSU, or wherever. http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040721/SPORTS030103/307210001/1025/SPORTS
As with society as a whole, I think there are a multitude of sins that should be looked at with a view toward giving the individual a second chance. However, there should be zero tolerance when it comes to crimes involving guns. The possibility of indescriminate killing is too great. Show 'em the door, quick.
looks like he scraped together enough money to post bail and get a good attorney, an ole miss graduate at that. it will be interesting to see what happens. Ferguson is also familiar with Glankler Brown, PLLC, the law firm representing Pittman, and its ability to handle high-profile cases. Assisting Eggleston in Pittman's defense is John Pierrotti, a former Shelby County district attorney. Glanker Brown also represented millionaire and former Alabama booster Logan Young in a federal case surrounding the recruitment of Albert Means. http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040722/SPORTS030103/407220399/1025
