I had to go with Bama 71-81. Bear Bryant made the word "Alabama" synonymous w/ college football during this time...in the most competitive conference in the nation. Rupp's Kentucky dynasties were largely based on the fact that in the SEC, there was Kentucky and then there was everybody else...in short, very little competition.
To me, lumping men and women together in track and field is a little misleading and overly crediting the men. The women won every year from 87-97 which is impressive. But the men only won three tiimes (89, 90 and 02) which is hardly a dynasty. Why lump then together?
G_Mann I agree with what you said about Rupp but it wasn't his fault that the rest of conference sucked so you have to give them their props. and they were big on the national scene as well.
It's track, people barely notice it anyway. My vote went to the LSU baseball team cause of a little bias and it's quite an accomplishment to win a national title every 3 years or so for a span of about 15 years. Also, why was Florida even put up there. That one looked a little out of place with it's one national title and 6 SEC titles. I could think of a few other "dynastys" that would be more deserving.
I don't know, UF won 6 SEC titles in 10 years in the most important of all the sports, I'd say they deserved to be on that list. Especially since it was during the age of the SEC CG.
Football is the only sport in the SEC where all schools, except Vandy and UK, put all their money and resources into winning. With that said, what Bama and Florida accomplished in football was really amazing. Hopefully, LSU will follow in those footsteps...
