You talk to Randle personally about that?? CLM?? Cause I don't see how Lee adjust the trajectory of the ball after it has been thrown. It was either a busted play ... or one suck azz pass. I find the later hard to believe.
you know I can't remember now, I know we talked about this a lot in one of the threads after the game did we come to the consensus that with over the top help in what appeared to be zone coverage that he just sat down on the route and Lee misread the D and still threw it like it was going to be a fly pattern?
I don't now how many more completions over 20yds we have this year, but IMO that has been huge for this team. These have also improved: redzone scoring percentage, passing yards, and passing efficiency. That last one is pretty important too and it coincides with the improved downfield passing game.
Redzone conversions, time of possession, turnovers/game and yards per pass attempt are the biggest improvements followed by 3rd down conversions and sacks given up. 2011 Red Zone scores = 97 % (missed a short FG that was the Randle dropped pass for a TD) Red Zone TDs = 80 % 3rd Down Conversions = 47 % (50 % if you count those that we converted on 4th down instead) Yards per pass attempt = 8.1 Yards per rush attempt = 4.2 Yards per play = 5.5 Sacks against per game = 0.7 Turnovers per game = 0.4 Time of possession = 30:10 2010 Red Zone scores = 86 % Red Zone TDs = 53 % 3rd Down Conversions = 38 % (44 % if you count those that we converted on 4th down instead) Yards per pass attempt = 6.7 Yards per rush attempt = 4.5 Yards per play = 5.3 Sacks against = 1.9 Turnovers per game = 1.9 Time of possession = 34:20 28 of 35 red zone trips has resulted in touchdowns this season 1. Randle dropped an easy TD pass 2. Peterson bobbled an easy TD pass and was stopped at the 1, should have gone for it with a JJ sneak 3. Brad Wing should never have been flagged for that silly penalty and a failed redzone attempt would have never been registered To think how close we are to a 30 of 34 conversion rate is just crazy. Wisconsin leads the nation with 29 of 33 converted for TDs.
I should have posted Redzone TD % instead of scoring %, but I didn't want to do the math. It's more important than scoring percentage because it shows we aren't settling for FGs as much. I meant to put 3rd down % but forgot. We are a more efficient passing team without a doubt.
In looking at plays over 20 yards, 30 yards, 40 yards, etc, the numbers are close enough from 2010 that it's fairly negligible. Again, the biggest thing is 3rd down conversions and keeping the ball more which has favored a much improved time of possession. 7th in the nation this year vs 55th last year. 34 minutes, 20 seconds time of possession would normally either lead the nation or be a close 2nd, this year it's an anomaly that we are 7th with that high a figure. Keeping more drives alive and punching it in when you get close. That's been our pattern. Keeping away from the negative plays like sacks has helped out a lot obviously, giving our offense a much better chance to convert 3rd downs. Rarely have you seen this team with a 3rd down longer than 10 yards.
Talked to more than few about that specific play. There was one guy under and one guy over and 3rd guy also coming over the top. RR could have kept running a fly pattern and nothing would have come from that play. Lee committed early but no big deal he has been doing more than fine getting the ball away fast. I will take those odds. Remember Lee is not the only one who has to make pre snap and after snap reads in Krags offense. WRs also have to adjust to what is shown and have to adjust routes depending on the coverage. Randle was supposed to find the soft spot in the zone when given zone coverage. They have been doing a good job at this and it all starts with the great pre snap reads by Lee which is why we see a majority of throws to the primary WR.
