I think you're spot on---I would think Skip mentioned this if, after reviewing all candidates, he truly doesn't think the right choice is interested or available at this time. It is weird, however, to have the sitting AD (who, assumedly, will be a key evaluator of applicants) openly telling interested candidates that he may take the job after all. Sort of like Dick Cheney heading up the VP selection process, then getting (taking?) the job himself. Would this cause otherwise interested guys to shy away now? Hmm...
I honestly believe its what alluded to above. If Skip can't find the right coach, he'll step in. I believe Skip returning would be his last choice.

Wheather it happens or not I do not know. But having the legend back at the helm would surely give LSU baseball a shot in the arm as they say.
