I agree that many of JR's sacks were because he didn't throw the ball away enough but teams didn't stack the box as much this year as in the past few and we ran better in last few years. Our pass blocking was much better than our run blocking for most of the season.
We tried Steven Korte on a few occassions. He was the biggest & strongest, thus would be the one to power the ball through an "weak" Oline. I think Miles has a policy that favors Seniors to a degree, but not to a fault. If our running problems had happened in the beginning of the season instead of after half way through, I think the coaches would have strongly considered not redshirting a RB.
Opponents did stack the box, but I think you are giving that too much credit. I don't have a statistic, but I don't think they stacked the line as often as you imply. They were a good Oline, but they failed to live up to expectations & JaMarcus was hurried often - through little fault of his own.
BS. 63% completions. Had we thrown the ball more with that % teams would have had to ease off the line and we didn't. Yes I know our receivers dropped a ton this year, but 63% is about as good as it gets.
Then just imagine how good it could get if our receivers caught! :thumb: :hihi: We threw the ball 50% of the time every game. I wouldn't have minded seeing us throw it some more, but it was a balanced offense... I can't say that I think our throwing percentage was the problem.
Here is an example. The first play of the SECCG. QB Russell drops back to throw a bomb downfield to receivers sprinting for the flag and the post. OT Livings is challenged by the DE on an outside pass rush but pushed his man outside and behind the pocket. Only Russell failed to step up into the pocket and got himself sacked. The sack was Russell's fault, not Livings.
I would agree. But Russell didn't get sacked that often this season... I'm not referring to sacks - I'm referring to our QB being hurried. It wouldn't matter who was QB, he would have been hurried a lot more than he should have been this season.
