Well (What was that second baseman's name again?) :hihi:
I've conceded that already in post #17- can't any of you corndogs read??

On a serious note, what do those WV rankings, more specifically their #3 one, say about our #2 preseason ranking?

Yeah I saw that post, and disagree with the vast majority of it. About the only thing I saw with any weight to was "The WVU/UGA bowl game wasn't last year"
We laugh at the big east, for being weak for the same reason we do the Pac-10. This was the 1st year Rutgers made any noise in my lifetime, and Louisville was a C-USA team a couple seasons ago. If these teams were so "great" why weren't they successful before the ACC raided their conference?
Probably because the conf was way too deep then. Yes I know UL beat Miami last year, but how would they have handled playing VA Tech the following week?

The same as all pre-season rankings. Pretty much nothing. Us blowing out ND last year don't mean ch!t anymore. We go out and actually play a few "big boys" during the year.

Not tonight, I gotta get up for work tomorrow.

    Therein, is my thought.

IF, when his playmakers were young and they took on a team like UGA in the Sugar and won, dominated in the 1st half until coasting through the second...should these same players, same staff, and same scheme not deserve respect based on the consistancy they've displayed?

One can point to their schedule and say they aren't playing anyone. But, when it comes to their post season play, they've proven the point they can. In '05, against the SEC. In '06, against the ACC.

Rod has built a program there; I have no doubt on that. What shocks me is the point he doesn't hold practices as long as the NCAA allows, but continues to field good teams.

Interesting you'd bring the Pac in.....USC lost their "Bowl game" in '06 and, like WV, won it last year.........hmmm. Where are they picked to finish this year??

BTW, Cal rips Tennessee this year. (No, Mr. Baseball, not Cal Ripkin, California)

The thing is, when you play a weak schedule, you stay healthy, depth is no problem. You can point to and get up for one or two big games, as opposed to someone in a strong conference, where you have 5 or 6 teams on par with you, or close, and a couple of other ones laying in the gap between your big games, waiting to spring an upset. That's the difference I see.

Dude.....it's football. High school players have their careers ended each week. We (LSU) had three players sustain minor injuries doing drills this past week. I understand your reasoning and know what you're getting at but injuries happen- the Big East plays full contact too. :thumb:

Valid point. The only thing that I can say about that is both teams have a month+ to rest up for the game.

If it is season ending injuries, different story. But, those would effect the regular season as well, wouldn't they?

Well everybody settle down. Higgins is in Memphis and there are lots of Bama fans here (so is Nick's agent). I don't think Higgins was ever a Saban fan, even when Nick was at LSU. I wouldn't be surpised if Higgins projection of WV as NC is nothing more than a shot at Bama and its local and very vocal fans - and (as usual with any sports writer) an attempt to generate interest. Looks like he was successful.

It's not just injuries, it's not being able to have a let up in performance all year, WV can and LSU, Fla, Bama, can't. They can get primed for a couple of games, and win with a lesser effort against the majority of their teams.

    I don't disagree with that.

Did Ohio State, last year, not have a few games they normally do on their schedule?
