BCS remains the same except the Big East is removed and the non-BCS school with the highest BCS ranking gets an automatic bid into the BCS. All conferences are permitted to determine their conference champion according to their own rules including playing or not playing a conference championship. The remaining non-BCS conference champions play a four game playoff that begins after the conference championships. 1. SEC-same 12 2. Big 12 - same 12 3. Pac 10 - same 10 4. Big 10 - same 11 5. ND - same 1 6. ACC - add East Carolina 12 7. Big East - 12 North Division Syracuse Boston College Connecticut Rutgers Army Buffalo South Division Temple West Virginia Marshall Pittsburgh Louisville Navy 8. MAC - 12 Western Division Eastern Michigan Western Michigan Central Michigan Northern Illinois Ball State Toledo Eastern Division Cincinnati Bowling Green Miami (OHIO) Ohio Akron Kent State 9. South 12 - 12 Western Division Tulane Louisiana-Monroe Louisiana-Lafayette Louisiana Tech Memphis Southern Miss Eastern Division Troy State UAB Middle Tennessee State South Florida Central Florida Florida A&M 10. Mountain West - 12 Southern Division TCU North Texas Rice Houston UTEP SMU Northern Division Arkansas State Colorado State Air Force New Mexico New Mexico State Tulsa 11. WAC - 12 Western Division Hawaii San Diego State San Jose State Fresno State Nevada UNLV Eastern Division Idaho Boise State Brigham Young Utah Utah State Wyoming
The day is coming. I agree with the direction you propose the NCAA takes, but I might put some other teams in other conferences. I, for one, would like to see ND in the Big 10 to give them 12 teams. That way, they could have a conference championship games pitting the divisional winners against each other. I love conference championship games. I think the ACC is headed in that direction as well. Actually, I think the first move should be to get 12 teams in each of the BCS conferences, each with two divisions and championship games. The Big 10 can still call themselves the Big 10, and the PAC 10 can still call themselves the PAC 10. I think the MNC picture would be much clearer in this fashion.
How about this: B(C)S Conferences SEC West: LSU, Arky, Bama, Auburn, Southern Miss, Tulane SEC East: UTK, UGA, FU, USC, Vandy, UK Big 10 East: Penn St, Pitt, Ohio St, Michigan, Michigan St, Wisconsin Big 10 West: Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern, Minnesota, Iowa Big 12: No change ACC North: Virginia, Syracuse, VTech, UNC, NC State, Duke ACC South: F$U, Miami, GaTech, Clempsun, Wake, West Virginia Pac-12 North: Washington, WSU, Oregon, OSU, Berkeley, Stanford Pac-12 South: Zona, ASU, UCLA, USC, BYU, Colorado St Non-BC$ Big Least: Temple, Rutgers, UConn, Buffalo, BC, Marshall, Toledo, Louisville, ECU, Cincy CUSA West: Tulsa, UTEP, Rice, SMU, TCU, Houston CUSA East: LaTech, UAB, Troy State, Moo U, Memphis, Central Florida Sun Belt: Ole Priss, USL, UL-Monroe, South Florida, North Texas, MTSU, Arkansas State
Assuming the major (BCS) conferences split/merge to form four 16-team "super conferences" (as has been speculated), here's what I think they'll look like: Pac 16 Pacific: UCLA USC Cal Stanford Washington Washington St. Oregon Oregon St. Mountain: Oklahoma OK St. Nebraska BYU Air Force Colorado Arizona Arizona St. The "Big" Conference North: Minnesota Northwestern Michigan Michigan St. Wisconsin Notre Dame Ohio St. Illinois South: Missouri Iowa Iowa St. Indiana Purdue Penn St. Kansas Kansas St. ACC South: Miami Ga. Tech Clemson Wake Forest UNC NC St. Duke FSU North: Maryland Va. Tech Virginia Louisville West Virginia Syracuse Boston College Pittsburgh SEC West: LSU Arkansas Ole Miss Miss. St. Texas Texas A&M Texas Tech Baylor East: South Carolina Vandy Tennessee Kentucky Alabama Auburn Florida Georgia
Only problem with the original idea here is that ULM, ULL, and possibly a few more will have a tough time meeting the attendance figures needed to maintain Div 1A
