1. Family ties 2. Realization that LA will never allow for LSU to be a true flagship. The last straw was the budget cuts and freezes. 3. Continual controversy over consolidating classes and firing instructors in order to hire more PHDs.
Number 2 is stupid. LSU is, has been, and will continue to be the only flagship university in this state. Who else is even close?
