BR will see winds of 35-50 if it comes in around Houma, less the further east it comes it. The high pressure is spliting, creating an alley. This SOB may fly and come in as early as Monday AM. I think this storm will turn tomorrrow AM, around 6 AM. If that happens and this high breaks in two, the opening will become her path. It looks like the hurricane force winds will hit a path 30-50 miles wide. Pensacola went something like 70 years between major storms when Opal hit in 1995. Metro New Orleans long over due, unfortunately. I think next Saturday night may be place many of let out our frustrations.. One cool thing about being an avid fan is having such an outlet. I filled the car at 10:30 tonight and there was already a line. I'm sure the bank will be fun tomorrow. Everyone stay safe. We need to be around celebrate when Scappy breaks open the bank.
the storm surge here in slidell is massive. if that thing gets in the lake hnoes: we're gonna get whiped out, not to mention what we all know will happen to new orleans. I just wish this thing would turn if it's gonna do so. Nothing like feeling like an idiot for being over-prepared, or feeling like an idiot for not being prepared enough. I hate leaving the house to go to the store none the less leave for a storm and stay in some hotel room somewhere
St. Tammany's looking at a strong cat 2 or 3 storm if it comes between the river and Grand Ilse. The western part of the lake will be Tangi and the eastern part in New Orleans. It's gonna be a mess. New Orleans will be the electricity priority, maybe St. Tammany next. However, CLECO may send all their crews to Marksville to fix a transform and not make it around here until Christmas!
The latest projections don't look good for south LA. If it follows the projected path it looks like it will make landfall near the mouth of the Mississippi as a Cat 4 storm. Please follow the news and take all of the necessary precautions and evacuate if necessary. I've got my fingers crossed and am saying a prayer for all of my fellow LSU fans and cyber friends. :thumb:
Oh, ****! The very latest has this storm coming directly over Grand Isle & headed for a New Orleans bullseye. Keep going west, girlie.
I used to meet my extended family in Gulf Shores every Labor Day Wknd...now we meet in July. For the last 3 years their has been a Hurricane threatening the Gulf Coast along with the first game of the season.. Last year we were talking about Ivan..this year..Katrina.
10 am update ... Katrina starting to make its move. Moving due West instead of WSW, with a more NW movement expected later today. No increase in intensity, but still expected to be a CAT 4 storm. Hurricane watch just issued for Louisiana, including New Orleans. Expect evacuation orders to be issued this afternoon.
This one's is just crazy. There's no guessing when it goes north. They keep pushing the STRIKE ZONE WEST. It's going west on the 25 Deg North Latitude Line. I'm not evacuating until it takes a hard turn north and is coming into SE LA for certain.
Whats the evac orders so far? I live in Baton Rouge but am in Memphis right now. Going hom tomorrow. Not worried about an evac in BtR but wondering if and when I-55 southbound is going to become northbound.
