From what I'm hearing, the Nate Harris deal is done and he will be on the roster this year. He will have full elligibility (5 years to play 4) just like any other incoming freshman.

This is what I am hearing.

There is a contraversy because of his past, (he was the driver of a car and a friend of his pulled a gun on someone and took their jewelry, then got in Nate's car and rode off. He was convicted of a crime and served his sentence in a boot camp) but Saban knows a lot more than any of us about the situation and he's willing to give this guy a chance. I hope he makes the best of it. I imagine we'll be taking some crap from our rivals about this. Hopefully Harris will be a model citizen and a great ballplayer and will silence his critics.

    Good luck, Nate. And welcome.

Oh, by the way, Nate signed with Miami out of high school in '02. He was very highly recruited that year.
I've heard from people who have seen him play that he is amazing.
He never enrolled at Miami, so like I said...he's fully elligible.

    I'm Saban's biggest fan, BUT..

very bad move if true in my opinion....below is College Football News story on the kid..

    MIAMI (Florida)
    HARRIS, NATE
    5/02
Miami football recruit Nate Harris, projected as one of the team's top freshmen next season, has been arrested and charged with armed robbery and could lose his scholarship. Harris, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker, has been jailed since last Thursday. According to the Miami-Dade police report, Harris and Antwan Evans, both 19, robbed a victim at gunpoint. According to police, the victim was playing checkers on a street corner in Liberty City when Evans pulled out a gun then took the victim's necklace, bracelet and ring. Harris and Evans then fled to their car, which allegedly was being driven by Freddy Cromer, 21. The victim chased them and later gave police a description of the car and the attackers. The three were arrested shortly after the robbery. ``I told him to stay away from those guys,'' Edison coach Corey Bell told The Miami Herald. If convicted of armed robbery, Harris could be sentenced between four and 10 years in prison. Harris had 121 tackles and 14 sacks last season, helping Edison to its first playoff appearance since 1988. Several publications listed him as one of the state's top linebackers. This was not his first arrest. When he was 15, Harris was arrested and charged with stealing clothes at a mall. He spent six months at Bay Point School, an alternative school in north Miami for troubled teens. Just days before signing with Miami in February, Harris vowed to stay out of trouble for the sake of his son. His girlfriend, Lisha Johnson, gave birth to Nathaniel Jr. Harris in December. ``I've got an even bigger reason to succeed now,'' Harris said then. ``I've got a kid to call my own, and he's depending on me to provide for him. He needs me to be a good father.''

Everything I've heard has said that Nate was the one driving.
I don't believe everything I read in the papers, much less on the internet. But like I said above, Saban knows a lot more about the guy than we do. I'll let him make the decisions. He seems to know what he's doing. :)

I can only assume coach Saban knows the whole story on this kid and feels he's headed in the right direction. Sounds like Nate needs a strong, disciplinary influence in his life and maybe coach Saban is just the ticket.

Sounds like coach Saban is giving him his last chance to fly right and make something of himself. If he continues to be a problem I expect coach Saban will not allow him to jeopardize the team.

If he is indeed a Tiger, I welcome him to the family. Good luck Nate. You've got a great opportunity at LSU. Make the most of it and welcome.

Well, Larry Foster and Greg Hill each made the Cracksmoker list as did Coach Brady. Check out the NCAA Football and Basketball databases on the left side. At least LSU doesn't have its own separate database.

And it looks like they haven't added Lemarcus Rowell (Auburn) to the July list.

and thankfully they haven't found out about the others.....

It's one thing to have a player with a clean record go bad, but to let a convicted felon on the team...very bad policy, how in the world do you kick another off when you just recruited and armed robber?

    cheers!
