Nation's #1 QB class for 2013 now enrolled at LSU!!!

He's developed 3: Russell, Flynn & Perrilloux, though his stay was short lived, enough to put LSU nto the 2008 BCS NC game. Miles isn't a QB coach, but that doesn't seem to matter here.

Well, if you can name just 1 college that has 2 QBs ranked higher than the 2 Miles already has in the classroom at LSU, it would invalidate the claim I suppose. I hope the 2 develop, as LSU's QB history is not great to say the least, in the NFL.

No he's not but to say it doesn't matter is, to me, saying it was okay to cost us a National title year before last with JJ. It's also why it's debatable how much he developed the two you named. Minimally, he has a share in it but the time they spent with Saban can't be discounted. The difference being Saban has gone on to have other good ones- actually better. Miles, not so much.

Oh I think I get it now. I wasn't sure how or who determined that, say, two 4 star QB's > than one 5 star or maybe even three 3 star Qb's.

I'm not enamoured with Richt. I guess in comparing Miles and Richt (and a bunch of other coaches at big time programs), Miles ain't doing so bad.

Russell was a freak of talent (recruited by Saban), but I wouldn't say he was a great QB because he only got as far as his arm allowed. His best successes were getting us out of pickles he put in us. His development was minimal.

Flynn won us the NC (and was recruited by Saban), and we haven't had comparative output at the QB position since.

Perrilloux was a net negative to the program and it wasn't even close. He contributed to Miles' NC, but in a support role. His bigger contribution was leaving a void at QB causing Miles to abuse Lee and JJ in turns (moreso Lee, IMO).

Andrew Hatch was one of Miles' best independent contributions to the QB situation at LSU and was used to fill the void Perrilloux left. Barely serviceable.

Lee was abused from the start and was never given a fair shot, IMO. Choosing to not rotate Lee and Jefferson early as Lee struggled through his redshirt season was a mistake, and Miles never improved on his use of Lee. Not to say that Lee didn't struggle, which is obvious to anyone who watched his record number of pick-6s.

Jefferson was misused and could have benefited from a more consistent rotation with Lee, IMO. Painful. Probably could have been better had the QB situation during his time here not been so bungled.

Mettenberger is probably Miles' best independent contribution to the QB situation at LSU and has so far struggled, with some potential shown. More help from the receiving core would be nice.

This is not a legacy to be proud of, IMO. I'm also frustrated by the lack of creativity in getting players like Holliday and Shepard involved in the offense.

I'm happy about getting these two guys, and glad to see one described as a quick learner and a student of the game, who also happens to be fairly mobile. It is better than not getting. Just hope they aren't squandered.

You can keep blaming JJ or Miles or "Both conspiring against LSU to keep them down", good lord. for the 2011 Bowl game. Had Miles not put JJ into the Bama game, LSU would be playing in the Sugar Bowl that year. And maybe in retrospect, Miles should have played for that 2012 Sugar Bowl, rather than LSU's only 13-0 perfect regular season. Many LSU fans obviously don't know how to put the past behind them. It's not like LSU had been knocking on the door of Championship games for decades, we were not. I was there, LSU went 10-1-1 in 1987 & that was a big fucking deal back then. LSU beat their 1st #1 ranked team in 1997.

Here are the numbers, discount as you wish:

    Nick Saban years:

    Flynn: 4 of 10 passes 40%

    Russell: 73 of 144 passes 50.7%

    Les Miles years:

    Russell: 420 of 653 passes 64.3%

    Flynn: 241 of 427 passes 56.4%

    Perrilloux 51 of 80 passes 63.7%

You can decide which coach got these players the necessary reps & game experience to get them into the the NFL. *Perrilloux transferred of course, but won the SEC Championship game, that put LSU into the 2008 BCS NC game.

Who would you take as your qb Jordan Jefferson or Marcus Randle?
  8. TigerTap LSUsports.net

I'd go with a Top 10 career passer at LSU. Was poor Marcus Randle used incorrectly by Saban?

    LSU Career Passing Yards

    1. Hodson, 9,115 (’86-’89)
    2. Wickersham, 6,921 (’82-’85)
    3. Russell, 6,625 (’04-’06)
    4. Howard, 6,158 (’92-’95)
    5. Tyler, 5876 (’95-’98)
    6. Jefferson, 4,733 ('08-'11
    7. Risher, 4,585 (’80-’82)
    8. Davey, 4,415 (’98-’01)
    9. Booty, 3,951 ('99-'00)
    10. Lee, 3,932('08-'11)

I would hope Jefferson would be up there he started for 2 seasons, and the back end of 2 seasons. Hell Mettenberger in 1 season has thrown for more than half the yards JJ did in 4 seasons. And who knows what Randle could have done with our D in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

    This post means shit.
Look for LSU to post a 5 win season this year.
