I think my feelings sum up the large majority of people's feelings here.

Saban is unable to ever propose an idea that I will ever support.

My mom could be on Dialysis and he could make a proposal that she get a Kidney and I'd tell him to fuck off with his agenda.

You should know better than ever post anything that is linked to Saban and try to spin it as a positive here. He can do nothing right.

TerryP? Response? Seems pretty clear from the quote you put in there Saban is making the argument you claim he is not making...

@kcal better quote, from the nola.com article above

Yes, you read that right. Running the hurry-up will get you penalized for delay of game. Thank you Nick Saban, you fucking pussy.

Chief doesn't need the time. He figured out how to defend it and successfully conveyed it to his players. Ask Chip Kelly, ask Sumlin (twice). Now we have to change the rules because Saban's not as good a defensive coach as Chavis?

The nola.com article posted above clearly lays out the stats that prove, not only does Saban's safety argument not hold water, but there's every indication player safety is in greater jeopardy facing Saban's steamroller than the HUNH.

I have not made any safety argument. I just think the notion that Saban is doing this because he's not a good defensive coach or doesn't have the players is ridiculous.

Point is Red SABAN made the argument about safety. As just about everyone notes it is a BS argument. If the rules committee wants an discussion on equity between Offense and defense in a HUNH game then let it happen in a full and fair discussion where both sides can make an argument not a Star Chamber proceeding where those who disagree aren't given a chance to speak.

No one said he wasn't a good defensive coach...more to the point is that he doesn't want to change his system and seems to be trying to force the rules. Points like MC made were to show changing the rules wasn't required to be successful against HUNH.

Finally when was it wrong to call a spade a spade? Saban from all appearances has been the driver of the motion and acted secretly. Those actions seem to be egotistical, backhanded and to point them out isn't obsession IMO. As the information has gotten out it seems most of the college football world from coaches to media to fans have the same ideas about how Saban acted. In fact it seems the committee that approved the change is pulling back pretty quickly and washing its hands of it. That doesn't square with an obsessed fan base scenario.

So what? I have not made a safety argument, so why berate me? My argument has been about timing and substitution. Go find the right person to argue with.

    Yes they have . . .

"Now we have to change the rules because Saban's not as good a defensive coach as Chavis?" -- McTiger

"He's recruited athletes that can't defend the hurry up and even if he knows how to scheme for it, he doesn't have the players on hand right now, and he knows it. --luvdimtigers

Yes, people are saying that Saban can't coach defense and hasn't recruited the right players. Why assume that my responses to others are directed at you? Whether you like Saban or not, he can coach defense and has top defensive players.

Why do you ask me? I haven't defended Saban's lobbying the rules committee, only that he can coach defense and recruit defensive players as well as anybody.

But since you bring it up and think it is a scandal, I have to ask . . . any coach can lobby the rules committee, can't they. Haven't plenty of them lobbied against this? It's hard to call a proposed rule change secret when it is all over the news, just like every NCAA rules change every year.

I just hate to see us become like Auburn fans . . . obsessed with hatred for our rival instead of concerned with our own best interests.
