Defensively, they are pretty grim... Offensively, with the exception of 3rd-down conversion, they're pretty respectible for a first game.
Go look at the Hawaii/USC stats. The 2nd qtr is the only one that Hawaii didn't have 100 yards passing in. Similar to ASU/LSU. And Hawaii isn't half the team ASU is.
Is this assuming fUSC took their starters out early against Hawaii? Most SC starters played through the third quarter... and many into the 4th..... something about Heisman like numbers.
Time for raucous speculation: Which stats will go up significantly this year? Which stats will not? Which stats will drop? My wildass guesses: STATS WILL IMPROVE GREATLY= Penalties, Passing Offense, Passing Defense, Sacks, Kickoff Returns. First-game jitters produces a lot of foolish penalties and dropped passes. This will markedly improve. Passing defense is dead last and can only go up. We never got a shot at a kickoff return. STATS WILL IMPROVE SOMEWHAT = Rushing Offense, Rushing Defense, Tackles Behind the Line, Turnover Margin. These are areas in which I believe the Tigers to be better, but it didn't show in game one. STATS WILL DECLINE = Punting, Punt returns. We had a single good game. As we play more games these will likely drop, but I think we stay in the top-10, perhaps.
looking at stats after one game when others have 2 or 3 under their belt is pretty ridiculous for any reason. ALL defensive stats will improve except rushing avg per game. Punting will not. both guys were kicking with light air and wind. all offensive stats will. sacks and picks will as well. big deal. yards per carry or pass is what matters. that will not go up.
