Correct, because there was no "change of possesion". UT had the ball, comitted the foul, and got docked 15. In the previous OT, "technically" UT had the ball (returning a blocked FG), and a UK player twisted his head off by the face mask. Because UK was getting the ball next in OT (a change of possession), no penalty yards were marked, even though the flag was thrown. :insane:
Change of possession had nothing to do with it.. its because the facemask was during the play and the personal foul was dead-ball after the play...
Then why did the referee say "By rule, when there is a change of possession, the foul is cancelled" (or something to that effect, don't remember the exact wording)
Or something that involves all phases of the game. How about giving each team a chance, but none of hat BS start form the 25 yard line junk. Each team gets one possession, kick off from 10 yard line, special teams is involved that way. Argument against it would be that it would extend game too much. Three and four overtimes does as well.
How about let the FG kickers decide it. Each one gets an attempt from the 25. If both make it, move back 10 yard increments each time. Keep it short and sweet- the kickers hardly do much anyway.
The topic was discussed on ESPN radio (Mike&Mike) this AM. Mike Ditka was a guest and suggested the OT be a 10 minute period with each team being guaranteed a possession. That would at least provide an opportunity to possibly bring all phases of the game into play.
I don't like any OT that doesn't guarantee a winner. Nothing worse than a tie. I use to think starting from the 40 would work, but after watching many OT games in recent years, I'm not sure that would do anything with worn down defenses unable to stop anyone. Maybe they should just go for two starting in the first OT. That seems to end most OT games pretty quickly.
