No, I know what he means. Our support for Israel is at the heart of all our troubles in the middle east. We have gained nothing and our costs in lives, treasure, and prestige have been huge. Israeli intransigence is just as bad as Palestinian intransigence, perhaps worse. The world is tired of their squabble and neither side seems able to reach any compromise at all. It's their way or no way. There is nothing the US can do if the principals refuse to work on it at all. At this point I'm all for just letting them fight it out until one side capitulates.
Well, Israel could pave a lot of the Middle East if it came down to it and then we would really have an oil issue.
The US has supported the State of Israel since Roosevelt. Gained nothing? That is not true and you know it. Outside of the Dimona Radar Facility, US intelligence personnel move freely within Israel and get complete support and cover. Israeli's aren't waging war against other countries or attacking anyone if they aren't being attacked. The anti-Jewish sentiment in the Middle East would boil over into total chaos and extinction of Israel were it not for the US. The world is tired of their squabble? I am far more tired of anti-Semitic behavior and hatred.
I do not. When has Israel supported the United States? Did they fight with us in Vietnam or Kuwait or . . .anywhere. Egypt, Jordan, and Syria actually have. Do we have American military forces based in Israel? No. We do in Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq and Turkey. Israel has actually intentionally attacked and sunk a US navy ship. What exactly have we gotten from Israel to compensate for the trouble of endless guerrilla war with Islamic fanatics and those three bankrupting, unwinnable Middle East Wars? The anti-Jewish sentiment in the middle east has been largely replaced by anti-American sentiment. Clever of Israel, eh? Yes, it is. Nobody but us gives a rat's ass anymore and we're losing interest. Israel can obviously take care of themselves. The Soviet Union is no longer arming Israel's enemies against them. Israel can handle their local enemies. We need to crank back aid to Israel sharply and spend it on our own forces.

If for no other reasons than in a crap ass part of the world, they are peaceful people who participate in the global economy and share some common values with Americans. You have said before that you support Saudi Arabia as an American ally....but you would deny Israel? That leaves me speechless.
