Subject line is a reference to that old quote (maybe Will Rodgers?) but revised to show my love of fries. I never get supersized fries because I will eat every last one of them, which isn't the best combination when paired with a fast food burger or other menu item equally as greasy. Even those in my "Not so Good" category below are still pretty good. Here are 10 common fries and my preferences: The Good: McDonald's - I've never liked their burgers much but it's one of the places the kids like so I eat here often. Even when they tried to make their fries healthier a few years ago, I didn't see much of a difference. Chick-fil-A - Another favorite of the kids and I'm a fan of the waffle fries. Wendy's - They upgraded the fries about a year or two ago and moved up from "Not so Good" to pretty darn good. Popeye's/Checker's/Arby's - These are all similar yet different. I like all of them but they feel a little worse for my cholesterol than the typical fry. Especially Popeye's when combined with fried chicken and those biscuits. Jack in the Box - I went there a lot when they opened around LSU in the 90s but rarely eat here anymore. I think they have both normal and curly fries and are pretty good from what I remember. The Not So Good: Burger King - They recently changed fries also but don't appeal to me much. Sonic - I don't even get their fries anymore but like the tots. Another kids favorite so I eat there often. What-a-Burger - I like the burgers but not so much on the fries. *I'll refrain from getting into my love of speciality fries, such as the exquisite Garlic Parmesan fries I had recently that gave me the worst heartburn I've ever had in the middle of the night. No pain, no gain.
This thread is invalid without a Checkers/Rally's reference. edit: oh damn. Just noticed that you referenced Checker's. Carry on.
ditto on Wendy's. I used to like BK fries but I literally haven't had them in years. Are they different. They used to have a nice firm texture with a little potato in them so you were being somewhat healthy. Are they bad now?
Who goes to Sonic and gets fries? The reason their fries suck so bad is because all the sane people get tots. They just don't care aboutthe half breeds orderign their fries.
I try not to eat so damn many fries. So I just nibble on a few and leave the rest. Lately I've started eating them like Yankees with tart malt vinegar instead of sugary catsup. I like the fries at Frostop and Brubachers.
Wing Stop is also one of my favorites (not sure if they have those in La.). The wings are usually on the small side but their fries keep bringing me back.
