With spring football still over 2 weeks away, here's some number changes for the Tigers in 2011 - LSU Football RB Alfred Blue will wear No. 4 (moving from No. 24) CB Tyrann Mathieu will wear No. 7 (moving from No. 14) RB Spencer Ware will wear No. 11 (moving from No. 16) DB Tharold Simon will wear No. 24 (moving from No. 26) PK Drew Alleman will wear No. 30 (moving from No. 38) The newcomers who are joining the Tigers for spring practice have been issued the following numbers: QB Zack Mettenberger – No. 8 RB Kenny Hilliard – No. 27 DT Anthony Johnson – No. 56
I like this!! Mathieu will wear Patrick Peterson's old number!! I wonder if passing down #7 will be the start of a new tradition for defensive backs?
My opinion is the last few years: 7 > 18 Take your pick: 2008: Richard Dickson (18) or Patrick Peterson (7) 2009: Richard Dickson (18) or Patrick Peterson (7) 2010: Richard Murphy (18) or Patrick Peterson (7) 2011: ?????????????? (18) or Tyrann Mathieu (7) What player could take 18 this year and excite you more than TM7? 7 is the new 18
I'm very very excited about this because I only have a #7 jersey and have been very proud to wear it with PP7 the past few years.
I think you've lost the concept of what wearing the #18 jersey means. Also, Patrick Peterson is probably the greatest player to come out of LSU in a decade or more. Your argument isn't a fair one. But I digress, the 18 jersey isn't necessarily about the best player on the field.
I don't like freak at #56 but everything else is cool. 56 is an LB number but I won't lose any sleep over it.
I know '18' is rewarded to a player based on character. With that said, do you think the last few people to wear 18 had "more character" than EVERYONE else on the team? ....or just the most character of the players that see the field? If you are going with most character on team, then I say go ahead and give it to Seth Mannon.
