Didn't they lower the tee, as well?

I, for one, think that this rule change sucks. Why does the college game have to be more like the pros? I understand everyone is bigger, and it's practically the NFL at this point, but it still ISN'T the NFL, and that's a good thing. Might as well just make high school ball the same way while you're at it.

    It's bullcrap.

The game was never designed to have touchbacks. The return was supposed to an important part of the game.

However, I realize games change, and you need to adapt, so I dont really care. If they can still, but rarely, get one in the zone from the new location then I think it is fine.

Honestly, I think nothing changes. The kicker just practices more on getting it there. Plans are just the same. Kick off teams do everything Red mentioned already ...except kicking it out of bounds . I say tee that sucker up a little higher and knock the stitches off of it! :thumb:

If a kickoff goes out of bounds, the offense will start its drive at the 35-yard line.:thumb:

So what exactly does the rule mean by this?

6-2-1 - Free kick out of bounds: Five-yard penalty previous spot OR Team B's ball 35 yards from Team A's restraining line.

The kicking team (Team A) has a "restraining line" of their 30-yard line. If you go 35 yards from there (towards Team B's side of the field), you'll be on Team B's 35-yard line.

Or, Team B can simply make Team A re-kick from 5 yards further back (Team A's 25-yard line).

    Re: Kicking from the 30

And that would mean if you kick it out and the team takes the 5 yard penalty and you kick it out again, the team has the choice of another 5 yard penalty (and a re-kick) or to take it on the 40.

Kick it out 7 times and what happens.

That was my point. They are trying to prevent the option of kicking the ball out of bounds. Teams would be kicking the ball off from the 1/2 inch line.

After the 3rd or 4th time, you make sure someone on your team gets their hands on it cause the coverage will be so tired it's a quick 6. :hihi: :thumb:
