Yes, that is their problem now. That's why I say a 1 loss SEC Champ or a 1 loss USC will undoubtedly get a chance at the NC over a 1 loss Michigan. Notre Dame is the only team that no longer has that chance. Voters will do the right thing in that circumstance. An undefeated Rutgers still has that chance, with as good as they are in the computer polls. Voters could easily slide them past Michigan after a win over WVU, and I think that's in 2 weeks as well.
That's a given is they beat a very good Cal team. Of course, USC is still pissed that Cal lost last weekend, weakening the effects of this game to some degree.
ESPN's trying there best right now to promote the rematch. It's going to be a tough battle for them with so many weeks without Big Ten football. But they have Lee Corso, Lou Holtz, and Mark May all spouting about it now.
What's your take on Michigan being able to hold off a 1 loss Notre Dame at years end in the human polls?
Goes right back to your comment about Michigan not being seen for the next 2 weeks. If a team like Arkansas, heaven forbid, lays it to a great LSU team and then beats Florida soundly, you won't hear anything about a rematch anymore. Same thing is USC wins out. No way in hell the rematch is even being considered anymore. An undefeated Rutgers will be debated, but I think Michigan wins out in the end. Notre Dame....well you already know what I think about that case.
I don't think they will, especially if USC comes into the Notre Dame game undefeated. Notre Dame has way too much sentiment for Michigan to stand a chance. If Notre Dame goes into Los Angeles and beats USC, they will become one of the "greatest teams of all time" in the minds of the national media. For that matter, Florida and Arkansas don't stand a chance either. If USC loses tonight, I give a little better chance for Michigan.
So your pecking order is: 1) 1 loss USC/Notre Dame (winner of that game) 2) 1 loss Michigan 3) 1 loss SEC Champ (Arkansas/Florida) Note: USC has a loss, I suppose you had a brain cramp on that statement you made. Notre Dame's computer polls take somewhat of a hit with an awful Army team this weekend. Don't know if the USC game is enough to propel them past Michigan in the computer polls. Notre Dame is praying to hell that USC wins tonite. They know its their only chance. That could be a difference maker if the voters are split down the middle between ND and Michigan for #2. Do you agree should USC loses tonite, that the USC/Notre Dame loses too much significance and that Michigan can then hold off ND in the human polls?
I'd say so, but I think that if USC loses tonight, it should open it up for the SEC champion (assuming they are a one loss team) to play for the title. That's my hope anyway.
I agree. Plus it helps Florida/Arkansas in the computer polls. They also might need a Rutgers loss (as opposed to a WVU loss) to keep Rutgers from wedging themselves between Michigan and a 1 loss SEC champ in the computer polls. altho I think Rutgers ending up ahead of Michigan in the computer polls is almost a definite, should they go undefeated.
