I think everybody understand this. The question is how little of a fish are they willing to fry. Does it stop with direct competitors? Obviously not given this case. How about fans at the game? Or at home? Are they going to monitor every blog and forum to make sure they aren't getting ripped off?
its all ridiculous and futile. technology will be so and is so that anyone will be able to do this directly from the stadium or just outside thru the fence or some guy within talking to someone 1000 miles away doing the same thing. its nice they try to control it because they feel its their propietary stuff but its completely stupid to try and fight it. it wouldnt be hard to do the video and/or audio and post it on a rogue site much the same way. they better find a way to embrace it and profit on it instead of acting like its going to go away.
You mean like the music industry should have done from the beginning. Hopefully they will learn from others mistakes.
exactly. they better get their own live blogger and trump the others before they lose site of reality. well apparently they have yet to face it. who is going to stop me from bringing a bluetooth headset (if they plan on banning cellphones) and feeding you audio as you blog it live from egypt if you want. or to 1000 different people at the same time blogging it or whatever. you'd run into issues with live audio or video but text? Not going to happen. That would then overlap with talking which is insane. its all going to be hopeless before long. it already is if anyone cared enough to do so but it wont be someone with a title working for a rag.
I can see a time where Alabama fans will be expecting Saban to Coach by looking at there blogs from the stands and telling him what to run for his next play. They will be blogging from there trailers while sipping there RC Cola through a straw and eating moon pie after moon pie. Now that is what i call technical innovation !!!
Yep, that is where it is all headed and beyond. We can't even imagine how this is all gonna play out. Who knew there was gonna be the Internet? We knew music was going to condense but did not realize there would be an ipod. Something else big is gonna happen in regards to sports. Just can't figure out what. There a few more billionaires walking the streets that we just don't know about yet.
In your case, LSU TV...figure, a channel available PPV? Perhaps, Direct TV? More likely, subscription packages to all the games a school plays that are available on the web. Heck, we are seeing that already with baseball, gymnastics, etc. at UA.
TTL, you probably have already read this...if not, if fits the general thoughts of this thread. SEC looks at own TV network
Thanks to everyone for the thought provoking posts. All of us use this technology daily to quench our thirst for instant news. And many times it's not good enough. Our thirst for more, now, also drives us to accept lesser quality. The television still gives us the best visual quality reporting. Unfortunately humans run the insane asylum of television networks and profits keep them from giving the consumer what they really want. I live in Nashville and want to watch LSU every time they play. Television can deliver that but will not. The Internet is side stepping this. Now big business is slowly but surely changing the Interent landscape. Does anyone know many Division IA programs have Athletic sponsored Blogs? Here is a link that I posted on another thread to show how Vanderbilt just started using a Vandy sponsored Blog. http://vucommodores.collegesports.com/ot/Barca-Blog.html If you look at the beginning its weak, but as the baseball season progresses the Blog gets better. You have to think they have big plans for all programs starting next year. Maybe the NCAA plans to let only universities have Bloggers present at games so they can better control reporting and drive Ad dollars. I honestly think I would be happier with better access and coverage of the team supplied by LSU by way of the Net then from newspapers. Can you imagine what would happen if LSU posted video clips from the locker room after LSU beats Florida to win the SEC? You get home after the game to view the clips of players and coaches or you get a podcast on the way home of interviews. Many players and coaches don't like reporters because of the bad light they paint of the team or player. This would eliminate that problem. Of course the big wigs have to sort all this out, or I should say the lawyers. I think this is big and it is coming real soon. Question is how much would we pay
...saw on the news this AM that youtube has installed a filter that's supposed to eliminate the game footage...
