The first few years post Brees may be fun, going to be lots of dead money.

Colston, Cooks, Jones, Toon, Hill, Coleman, Watson, Spiller, Ingram are the pass-catchers currently on the roster. Meachem could very well be added back.

I laugh at the hand wringing over the Saints receiver situation. There is more talent at receiver right now before the draft than there were on the Superbowl team. The Saints have never had all-world receivers. They've always been a matchup of late round picks and undrafted free agents with the exception of Meachem.

They can't all be covered and Drew Brees will find the guy who is open. Cooks was among the league leaders when he got injured last year. This draft is ridiculously deep at receiver so expect some additions for sure, but don't think for a second that this offense won't finish top 10 at worst and Brees finishes the year with 4600+ yards to a bunch of no-names.

You listed one proven pass catcher on that list(Colston) and his best days are looooong gone. Believe it or not, the Saints WR Corp has been decimated In recent years. However lack of a running game and pass protection are equally important problems. I still can't believe they traded stills. The Saints will have a very hard time wining another playoff game before Brees retires. They have no defense and no offensive weapons. It will be another season of Brees having to be superman for the Saints to win a game.

FWIW, nola.com reporting the Saints have resigned Joe Morgan.

Agreed. Colston should have been a Pro Bowler in his prime, but he didn't produce the numbers needed due to Brees' spread-the-ball approach. As for the rest, the current crop may have more raw talent than Henderson, Moore and Meachem, but those guys all had several years experience by the time the Super Bowl year rolled around. Cooks, Toon, Jones and Coleman barely have a season's worth of active games under their belts combined.

That should tell you all you need to know right there. When guys like nick Toon and Joe Morgan keep making your team your WRs suck.

You make up these categories and pigeon-hole players as if it means something.

I don't know what "proven pass catcher" is supposed to mean. OBJ wasn't a proven pass catcher. Larry Fitzgerald is a proven pass catcher. The Giants seemed to do fine while the Cardinals can't seem to buy a caught pass from Fitz. Colston is a proven pass catcher and he had issues last season. He also had a lot of opportunities go to Jimmy Graham. He's shown that when needed, he's capable of coming up big. If he's not capable of doing that, the Saints will show him the door. Production is all that matters. Good players have poor performances all the time.

As for him being past his prime, Jahri Evans is past his prime, but he's still better than average and in the top 25% of players at his position. Brees is also past his prime, but he's still one of the best 5 QBs in the NFL. These are still players that can contribute and in this offensive scheme, that's all that is needed. I'm sorry that after a decade watching this team you haven't figured that out. Receivers are interchangeable. Runningbacks are interchangeable. Tightends are interchangeable. With a QB like Brees who can throw guys open and a coordinator like Payton who schemes around a defense's weaknesses, top tier talent on offense simply isn't necessary. Look at how well Lance Moore performed in New Orleans and then after in Pittsburgh. The scheme is much, much more important than the players.

Also, Spiller and Cooks are proven receivers. Cooks was in the running for OROY until his injury and OBJ's explosion in the center of the media universe. Joesn, Toon and Coleman have much to prove before they can be replied upon, IMO. They're still capable players in this offense.

A duo of Colston and Cooks is at worst as good as Colston and Stills. They will no doubt add some receiver talent through this draft which is ridiculously deep at receiver.
