I think that WILL be the biggest challenge in his life, staying clean for good (and not just for this moment) and truly turning onto a new leaf. That's like shedding some bad "habits" that he has known all his life so far. What, another grasshopper story
Perrilloux isn't near as bad as you make it seem. If he wasn't "Ryan Perrilloux", we'd have never read anything bad about him. And even with all the bad publicity he got, he'd still be on most D1 teams around the country. I expect him to have a lot of success at Jacksonville State, and will be rooting for him. He'll probably be teaching their coaches how to do things. He may have been considered a slacker by our standards, but I'm betting he works harder than any of their players are used to & will motivate his teammates to be better.
I currently live about 8 miles from Jax St. He will get away with a lot here. They run a very loose program. It is about 12 -15 miles from Anniston.................a crap hole ghetto town with a murder rate approaching Birmingham and the corresponding crime rates for about everything else. He will pass his drug test. :yelwink2:
That doesn't sound too good. I hope he turns a new leaf and does well. He'll never make JaMarcus Russell money, but he could make a few million in a few years and set himself up for life if he played it well. A guy who did just that was Earl Campbell. I read articles about him once in a while, and he is retired and doing reasonably well. He credits Bum Phillips with telling all the Oilers not to spend their money, to save and invest it because they never knew when their career could be over in a second. That's what Earl did, and when his brief career was over, he still had most of the money he made. He bought a small ranch, I think near Austin and still lives there. He can do what he wants. He played before the "big bucks", but to be retired at 30, he did good. He did suffer panic attacks and for a while he would not leave his house. He called a family member one day and said to come over, he was in his chair thinking about shooting himself; he got help and he's ok now. He used to like hunting, but got to where he could not walk into the field because his knees and hips hurt so bad. He went to an Oiler reunion at a Texan game and he was brought onto the field in a golf cart. He's a humble straight shooting dude, and I like him when I see him on TV. He and Bum still talk on the phone.
If JSU lets their players get away with so much, then why was their only QB (who was above-average for the league) kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons in the spring, shortly before we kicked RP off LSU's team for disciplinary reasons?
We all hope he turns his life around. But its high time his name drops from the sports pages around here. The guy could have put us on probation. When a player cares about only himself and not the team, it can cause a lot of problems. Good ridence RP. Let's concentrate on the players still on the team.
