I think it's fair to say that our guard play is a question mark on this team... seems like it's always the case for a Brady team. But, you make a point that is universal to all teams not just LSU. That's why a team like Tennessee is so dangerous, if you have 2 or 3 3-pt shooters who are all hot, that kind of team can beat ANY team on that night. But, you have to pick your poison when you recruit--a good solid team with 2 big men that are both hard to cover ALSO makes it hard for the other team, and that's the hard match up for teams facing LSU. That's also why LSU was able to beat Tennessee (so keep the faith!). Teams have to stop BBaby and focus on keeping Tyrus off the boards. As long as we have those guys play well and have someone on the outside hot, we'll be alright. I will say, tho', I'm of the mindset that if you have great guard play, it's harder to play defense against that than against good post men, especially with zones and other gimmicks. However, the guard play's improving and the rest of this season hopefully will be one where Temple and Tas' (and Ben V.) learn to step up and take big shots and take pressure off of D.Mitch. I for one, can't wait for next season with Mason and Martin added into the fold. I think then that this concern generally goes away. We add big, athletic guards who can play D and O. If we can convince Bbaby and TTime to stay, we're VERY balanced.
I don't think the outside game was the reason why we lost against Bama. We were 7-18 beyond the arc and Bama was 7-15. We are leading the SEC in 3 point field goal percentage in SEC play at 41%. Temple is starting to hit a few more 3s, which I think we'll be the key to our success down the road. I thought the inside game hurt us more than our outside game. Davis tried to force the inside game too much against the double team. He has to look to pass the ball back out for an open shot when doubled up. Davis had 4 of the team's 12 tournovers. Thomas didn't have any offensive rebounds, something he has excelled at this year. He's not going to score much if he doesn't get rebounds.
I agree with everything you said. It wasn't our shooting. Bama got to every loose ball and you're correct, we basically got one shot on our end. Couple that with the bad match-up of Temple on Steele and Mitchell on Felix and that's that. They should have been reversed.......We still had a chance to win it.
It's obvious that LSU can't shoot the three. Why even shoot it? What’s the point of shooting 18 three pointers? Had LSU shot 18 more shots in the paint they would have won. Big baby has the biggest frame in basketball. He was working his butt off trying to get postposition and the others failed to get him the ball. I can't help but think if you get the ball down it the paint more, LSU wins this game. The last few times LSU had the ball was ugly. I never seen a guy try to drive the lane and hand the ball off. Well what’s going to happen? A turnover that’s what. If you drive the lane you might as well try to make a lay up or get fouled. You don't drive and stick the ball in your teammates chest. That was ugly. D Mitch lost this game. What in the world is he doing taking 10 three pointers, very selfish. Brady should have yanked him.
So you think LSU should shoot 18 threes a game? D Mitch should NOT shoot more then 5-6 max. Get the ball inside.
If you can shoot around 40%, hell yeah, shoot as many as you like. You do realize that shooting 40% 3s is the equivalent of 60% from 2 pointland? Davis and Thomas were a combined 10-26 from the floor, 38%. I fail to understand how you think not shooting 3s would have helped us against Bama when our inside game wasn't productive with the 26 shots they had.
