As has been said over and over, Ole Miss gets up for LSU, especially in Oxford. Also, this is the last season for some players who have hung around to see if Oh No can get the program turned around. I sort of feel sorry for Robert Lane, he hung in and tried but it just has not worked out well for him. The next two games may well determine Oh No’s fate, despite what the AD keeps saying. Division II Northwestern State plays well against them two weeks ago, and then if we blow them out and MSU wins the Egg bowl, I think he is gone. So the coaching staff and the players will probably pull out all the stops, if there are any left. LSU brings it’s A game, it could be like our first three games or even worse. Even if we don’t, I just don’t see Ole Miss having the horses to stay in the game. I think LSU wins big – by more than 30 points. ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule:

Yep. Archie was playing with a broken wrist. I was at that game. LSU went on to the orange bowl that year.
I was on the field – lucked into a press field pass from my uncle at the Ruston Daily Leader. I think I remember oranges being thrown – almost got hit with one. Go to hell Ole Miss. ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule: ldskule:
My husband and I were there for that game, I remember chanting: "Archie, Archie, is our man, but he only has one hand!" The LSU-Ole Miss rivalry was much greater then it is now, Archie Manning was touted so highly, we were really happy to beat them so badly.
I seem to remember there were oranges thrown on the field at one of the games that year. I was in Tiger Band, and it happened right in front of us. A great year for the Tigers that ended in an Orange Bowl loss (12-7, Nebraska, I think). I know it was Big Red, but the score was close. That was the trip where the Tiger Band played at half time of the Orange Bowl in Miami then flew overnight to Oakland and performed at the East-West Shrine game as the winners of the All American College TV Band contest. A Very, very exciting band trip. Probably will never be surpassed. Coast-to-Coast!ldskule:
Remember the Ole Miss bumper stickers, etc that said "ARCHIE'S ARMY"? The rivalry was indeed much stronger. Although I lived in Jackson, MS, I went to LSU. I caught a lot of grief from my old high school pals. I think there were about eight or nine from my senior class that went to LSU. We stuck together, especially on trips home to Jackson. My little brother and I sold cokes and peanuts at the Mississippi Memorial Stadium in Jackson when Archie was the QB. Just so we could see him play. I probably ate more peanuts than I sold. It was fun. They used to play a few games there every year. Not so much anymore, as far as I know.
