They have been playing good ball this bowl season. Hawaii is a pretty good team. You are right the best team did win the game.
I usually agree with your posts but that is certainly not true that the best team always wins.......that's why we call them upsets and the "Best" team does not always win.
I'll use USC and OrSU as a good example here, tiga. Obviously, USC is a good team, and is the best team of the two right now. Teams don't stay at a constant good or bad level throughout a season....this is why, earlier in the season, OSU won against USC, and during that game, was the best team. USC had struggled against several opponents, and you could say that before that OSU was the better team as well.
I understand where you're coming from, but the way I look at it (Other than when it's blantantly obvious) is if for example, if USC plays OSU 10 times.......USC wins 8 so even if they lost that game they are better. You can't always measure the intangibles like UL being hyped up to play LSU but the opposite is not so. Also, refs, timing of critical mistakes (Good teams make them too), etc.
Of course they pulled it off, they been playing that gimmicky offense a while now. Just look at Tenn and UGA and the trouble Air force caused then with the triple option. Same thing with the spread option, if you haven't played against it it is going to cause you trouble, and Stoops is just being a gentleman about it. Just my opinion Mid Minors don't belong at the big boys table.
You are absolutely right about ND. As for the rest of your post, what the hell are you talking about. I'm just stating my opinion and why I have that opinion . It has nothing to do with Ulala or any other OOC game. Big Ten is tough, Big twelve is tough, ACC is tough, Pac 10 is semi tough, sec is tough, big east is semi tough, the wac and those other mid minors are a joke to me and to include them in is an insult to my common sense. After going through this BCS crap I year in year out, I wouldn't mind one bit going back to the old crappy system were the mid minors were an after thought.
I don't have a problem with your opinion. No disrespect for the non-traditional powers (everybody loves the underdog) but can we expect them to do this over a full year's schedule against quality opponents?...NO! Remember when Aaron Brooks replaced an injured Jeff Blake? Everyone thought he was an all pro until the remaining teams had enough video to learn his tendencies. After that, he was toast. Notice how Michael Vick looks human now? How about Tony Romo until they figured him out. It's easy to catch someone off guard but eventually everyone will catch on and shut you down. People also like to downplay the impact of playing in a tough conference. Look what happened to Miami and FSU when they joined the competition. Remember when Nebraska could waltz through a weak Big-8 schedule and play for the national title? They usually lost but when they did win, they would get the crown. How many have they won since they merged with the Southwest Conference?...ZERO! What if Notre Dame joined the Big 10 and they played a conference championship? We wouldn't currently have the arguments for Michigan and Wisconsin. The SEC Championship doesn't help the winner nearly as much as it penalizes the loser. Why not have the mid-majors with BCS clauses play an extra game to determine who gets a bid? Even with a playoff format, the smaller teams (and whiners like the AD at Tulane) will complain that the system is unfair and demand preferential treatment. I'm just glad that the Big 12 got their rears handed to them!
