It think we should start putting generators in the treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes at the gym. Think of all the free power we are wasting. We could take it a step futher and require all US residents to put out at least one hour a day on a generator. This would solve numerous problems: - Obesity, - Dependency on foreign oil, and - Reduce green house emissions. Got to think outside the box people.
They actually sell relatively cheap (around $2000) windmills for small buildings that tie into your breaker box. Some also serve as back up batteries in case of power outages. They aren't the most aesthetically pleasing things, but they say you can make your electrical meter turn backwards.
I don't see wind farms being the future of energy. I read an article recently about under water wind farms, which sounds intriguing, but I think ultimately some other form will be found within the next 5-10 years that is more efficient.
