    ramah's Miami experience

A season's Dream ... how about the worst game ... and Destiny
You need a lesson in Humility ... I've heard it said before

    ahhhhhhhhhhh, sweet, sweeeeeeeeet humility ...

the one pearl of true wisdom that cannot be taught ... but must be learned

There is a team ... out there ... a team that has a very poor and losing record against LSU ... a team that must be LSU's destiny to face again soon.

a team that I have loved to watch LSU whip as a kid.

We whipped 'em all thru the sixties ... until 1967 ... they stole one of the most thrilling games I've ever seen in Tiger Stadium ... and won at their house in 1968 ... back to back ... my world was in turmoil.

But the boys in 1969 (who shudda won another NC ... phukking Manning) gave 'em an old woodshed whipping and shut out ... my spirits soared ...

and they never came back to Tiger Stadium ... until 1988 ... almost 20 years later ... and boy what a team they had ... they whipped LSU 44-3 in the most miserable weather I've ever endured in Tiger Stadium in 40+ years of going to the games.

Stayed the entire game ... sitting there in a mostly empty stadium in a poncho soaked to the bone ... refused to leave ... gave my pop the keys to the car early in the 3rd quarter ... he left disgusted and demoralized as most Tigers were already gone and headed for a bowl of hot gumbo ... promised to pick me up later at the Pizza hut.

Just couldn't leave this thing of beauty ... this game ... it sticks in my mind ... Close my eyes and can still hear the pads cracking and echoes thru an empty stadium over the drone of rain pelting my poncho ... this team's speed destroyed the LSU Tigers ... watched this team's strength destroy the LSU line and open huge holes for the running game ... watched ... oh I watched ... and was humbled along with my Tigers for the watching. The wheels were coming off the tracks for the mighty LSU program of the 80's ... Archer would soon be gone and I understood why ...

It was after this game I truly became obsessed with recruiting and watching film ... just had to get at the essence of what it was they had that we didn't

I have waited for many, many years now for LSU to pay back the debt owed to this program ... THE #1 RANKED COLLEGE FB PROGRAM over the past 16 years. I don't hate them ... I actually admire the bastids (truth be told) ... but I swear the time has come to pay a visit to "Their House" ... to set things right. My worst game in Tiger Stadium (1988) ... Miami 44, LSU 3

That faded and almost illegible ticket stub sits near the center of my sinker cypress coffee table under the glass top along with the rest of the great games stubs ... just a humble reminder and a source of passion for college football ... would love to cover it forever with a winning LSU vs Miami Orange Bowl ticket this upcoming January. Nick, all I want for X-mas ...

I was there and unfortunately that is the last game i've seen in DV.
That will change either this year or next when I make a trip to town though.

In addition to all those mentioned, one that still makes me nauseous is the '98 Bama game. That's the one we lost 22-16 in the last 2 minutes, including several tipped passes that Bama hauled in, an onsides kick Bama recovered, etc., etc. It looked like we would finally end our winless streak against Bama in Tiger Stadium since '69, but, like the entire '98 season, the ball just didn't bounce our way that night -- just like it didn't bounce our way against UGA (Booger ALMOST knocked down Carter's pass), Florida (we were JUST offsides on defense when we ran back that INT), Kentucky (the end around), Ole Miss (Larry Foster drops the TD pass in OT), Bama and Notre Dame (last second pass just knocked away). If just a few of those bounces would have gone our way, Dinardo might still be in Baton Rouge. Thank God for bad bounces!

I'm surprised no one mentions the last game the Dawgs played down there before last year when LSU was ranked #6 in the country and lost to Quincy Carter at night.

Yeah, thats my pick. I think mainly because the whole weekend was rough. It was pouring rain all day leading up to, during, and after the game. Every so often, the rain would stop just to pick back up minutes later. Down on the field, there was standing water all the way up to the benches. I was in the band, so I was wearing that completely sturated uniform for what seemed like forever, went out on the field, which was mush by halftime, and got my shoes completely saturated as well. That night, my whole body was a prune. What made it worse, was that the next day, the band was playing at the Saints game. Well, you cant throw those uniforms in the dryer, so the best we could do was just hang 'em up and hope they dry out. Well, they didnt. So the next day in the 65 degree Superdome, we were all wearing soaking wet wool, with soaking wet shoes. Several people ended up getting sick. It was aweful.

That was also right after our ass whipping from Auburn and our 1-point loss to UGA. Dark days, indeed.

I wasnt at that game, but it was pretty bad. You guys beat us by 1 point 2 years in a row. 28-27 in 1998 and 23-22 in 1999 (I was in Athens for this one).

That game was the beginning of the end for DiNardo, so it was actually not a heartbreaker but a good thing for the program. I know a loss is never good but sometimes you got to look at the forest for the trees
