LOL...no, I don't want the image of "Toonces" on the Holy LSU Helmet seared in my memory. Ugh. :(

Miles can do whatever he wants with the football program . . . but he won't mess with LSU traditional too much. Not until he pays some dues, anyway. There are two sh!tloads of fanatic and influential football boosters that have been here for decades. New guys with brains just don't come in and start making changes.

Everybody here remembers the disasters of Gerry Dinardo's gold jerseys, white helmets, and god-awful purple pants without stripes. They looked like leotards out there. Everybody here remembers the disaster of the Skip Bertman "Toonces" logo which was done without any public input and was instantly and widely criticised. According to CRAWFISH, who is always right :yelwink2:   , it will be dropped at the end of 2004.

Miles has bigger thing to worry about right now and Skip Bertman will definitely be the man involved with any new LSU logo. And it will be new, not a reversion to an old look from the 60's.

The jerseys from the late 50s and early 60s were my favorites. For one thing, the shoulder stripes went all the way around and weren't just little patches on top :yelwink2: . The numerals were black instead of purple, which looked surprisingly good. The best touch were the numerals on the shoulders. Just looked completely sharp.

The one thing that has not changed on the LSU helmet since the days of Jimmy Taylor is the basic yellow color and the purple and white striping down the center. If any subtle changes were done to the logo under the L S U, I wouldn't loose any sleep over it.

There was a rumor in the mid-80s that AD Bob Broadhead wanted to change the LSU helmets to look like an actual tiger's head. They would have had stripes like the Cincinnati Bengals and the front of the helmet would somehow have been painted to look like a mouth with teeth. Thank goodness that never happened.

if they are gonna go throwback for a game, they should also go with the numbered helmets (solves the logo problem).

YES! Yes, I certainly did mean "gold." Thank you. And a beautiful shade of gold it is!
