My memory was that I really liked this helmet, but when I actually see it ... I agree w/ you that the big "LSU" on the current helmet is kind of awkward, but my vote would be to keep the helmet the way it is. I wouldn't mind seeing sort of a combination of the helmet pictured above, w/ the current helmet -- lose the purple circle, but keep the larger Tiger face and smaller "LSU" underneath. I also thought about simply having L S U on the helmet in diagonal fashion, but then realized that would look like MSU's design. How about a big "L" with the Tiger face by its side? I don't care for the "eye of the Tiger," I never really got into that ... isn't that based on a line, and song, from "Rocky III"? I like the cartoon Mike the Tiger with the little hat, because its features are much more readily distinguishable than the Tiger face, however, I don't think the cartoon Mike is really appropriate for a helmet. Another idea -- blow off the fact that MSU has diagonal letters on its helmets, and go with that on our helmets, I think it would look really cool, then put the Tiger face on the top part of the jersey.
Definately need to keep it the way it is. I think the current tiger head on the helmets :tigerhead looks sharp. Very fierce looking. The "LSU" letters, though perhaps awkward looking is definately a distinguished trademark. It's how we are known. You don't EVER have to refer to LSU as "Louisiana State" the way you do Ohio State, Florida State, Michigan State, Mississippi State, etc. Those other schools, don't go by their 3-letter abbreviation. And I think that's unique about us. You can't say "FSU" because it could be Florida State or Fresno State (though that might be a bad example because most everyone would think Seminoles, not Bulldogs. But you can't say OSU either. Especially now. Would you mean Ohio State or Oklahoma State? MSU? Michigan or Mississippi? IMO, it may look awkward--but it's just as defining of a logo as the Michigan helmet, 'Bama's numbers, Florida State's spear and Miami's "U". Could you imagine ANY of those schools changing their logo??? Those schools are the most recognizible helmets out there. They don't duplicate someone else's and it's NOT generic. It's their own. Which is what the current helmet logo does for LSU. Right. And we shouldn't be copying anyone. We have our OWN identity. No, it's not appropriate. Nor is it unique. That is actually a generic logo. The University of Pacific, which dropped it's football program in the mid-late '90's used that exact same cartoon logo.
