The thing that felt the best, was we sustained drives. We very well may have lost the field position battle last night, which is out of our norm. But our offense moved the ball down field, taking chunks off the clock. We had 3 70+ yard scoring drives. It is nice to know that the passing game is getting better and better, and is now there when we need it. As we continue to improve, our offense will get better, the playbook will open up more and as teams prepare for us, they are more focused on how they are going to score & shutting down our run game. So when the big games roll around, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas, we will have the ability to change pace on offense, open it up wide open and hit them when the least expect it.
Why reveal more of your offense than you need to? CLM seems to like to hold his cards close. While it's nerve-wracking for a fan, where's the sense in showing your full hand to upcoming opponents for them to prepare and get ready for you?
Yes, our turf-munching coach will likely go into history as one of the greatest DEEP STRATEGISTS in all of college football history. CLM is a combo of Muhammad Ali's "Rope-A-Dope" strategy & Columbo's "little bit off, not too sharp, then--gotcha!" And look at the substitutions we are making! Rapid, constant and flawless, keeping fresh guys in play throughout the game. And the team is so well-drilled that the subs have continuity--none of that "what do I do now, coach?" crap that often occurs when subs (especially FRESHMEN) go in. Commentators are beginning to notice BIG TIME that LSU's underclassmen, to a man, are a ridiculously high-functioning platoon giving us UNREAL depth! :geauxtige
I think CLM is one happy tiger as well. I think he knows what he's got this year, and how things are unfolding. He seemed almost giddy in his interviews with Jenna Brown last night. It's like he's a little kid who just got the present he always wanted.
I am one happy Tiger also, this team has played great this year and had less mistakes than years past. Congratulations to CLM's the other coaches, players for putting a very good product on the field!
Youngsters? No truer words. Think about this one, LSU has not one Sr. that will be drafted in the first couple rounds this year. Thats right, doing it with the younger group. A few middle, late and FA's. For years LB'ers have led the team in tackles, the 5 leaders so far this year, TM7, Simon, Taylor, Reid and Claiborne. After that we have leading in tackles the DL players, Logan, Brockers and Montgomery. Look at the stats after 3 games, keep an eye on the TFL, Sacks, Pass Defense. This is a great defense, making offenses look bad...... LSU - Cumulative Season Statistics :tigereye:
Did you notice that little smile when he mentioned having a "couple of extra days" to prepare for WVU.
Goodness. Is there another SEC team more prepared for conference play than our Tigers? Rhetorical but serious question
Yes ... I did!! What I noticed as well, is when asked what they needed to do ... all he could say was ... play ball. And he was almost giggly about it like he just couldn't wait to see his team perform! :miles: And .. NO .. I don't think there is any team more prepared than this one.
“We got our butts kicked tonight. That’s about the bottom line. Our offensive line didn’t do a very good job of blocking them at all. Our receivers didn’t get off and make plays. Their guys made plays. Our guys didn’t.” - MSU Coach Dan Mullen’s opening statement
