First option is 1 million in cash with nobody knowing about it unless you tell them.

Second option is 50 million cash but is the result of an international news story. Someone will recognize you everywhere you go, possibly forever. Roughly half of the population has a negative opinion of you.

A younger person may have different considerations than someone older so just think about it like you would at this point in your life.

Option 1 is my choice because of the impact #2 could have on my kids and family. If you choose #1, how high would you have to increase #2 to go with that option?

A million dollars these days doesn't make you rich. If you have a million its a nice nest egg for retirement but if you're young and quit working you would likely find yourself broke if you tried to live large. Forget about a $million dollar house. That would take all your money and you'd have to go back to work.

Make it $5 million and I'll take it. If nobody knew about it you wouldn't have to pay tax on it. If I had $5 million I would probably spend about $100K to remodel my house and then buy a very nice boat that I could also live on and travel around on for no more than $500K

No brainer. Take the $50 million. It can buy you all the privacy you need . . .along with everything else.

Yep, that's the answer. Hell, assuming the $50 million is net or tax free, take $10 million for walking around money for the rest of your life and invest the other $40 million getting a 3% return, then use the interest to buy your privacy and as much security as you can.
