I am showing my age too but here is another solid vote for Bert Jones. He had a great combination of athletic skills and football saavy. Hopefully Jamarcus will make me reconsider someday.
Bert Jones was the best passing QB we've ever had, no doubt. But even if he weren't in a 2 QB system he still wouldn't have been LSU's leading passer of all time with Peavy as the OC. But he would have had some pretty darn good stats. Hodson I really loved as a freshman, loved as a soph, liked a little as a senoir and wanted him gone by the time he was a senior. I never saw a guy get progressively worse every year like he did after being so good as a freshman. Ro of course I love, wish he would have started at least 2 years but he developed very slow evidentally. Wickersham had the second strongest arm I've ever seen at LSU till JR came on the scene 3 weeks ago. But no one had an arm like Jones, not even Russell.
Best Quarterback - Bert Jones 2 the best games, ever, ever was 1970 Notre Dame & 1972 Ole Miss. Bert shined in both. 2004 had the best defense. 1970-1972 had the QB. I also liked Ensminger, Hodson, Billy Ezell, Mike Hillman, Alan Risher, Davey, & Mauck. Didn't care for Lyons, (either one), Tyler, (yeah I know he was a winner), Wickersham, David Woodley, or Jaimie Howard. But Bert was the most talented since Y.A. Title. Rohan had heart, but was not as talented in my opinion.
Yeah sit with a 100 Gator fans and watch that game I had a BLAST!!!! Not so much last year...the good with the bad, I guess???
You know its funny my little brother remebers Dalton Hilliard and all he can talk about to this day is Hilliard "dancing" around the defense and how he SWORE nobody could touch him ever...I guess its alot of time who you first see that is exceptional in your mind forever.
Close enough, from Dandy Don: Jeff Wickersham (QB) 1982-85, Merritt Island, Florida. Jeff lives in Metairie, owns and operates a successful marine and industrial company
