Is there some reason we can't have both?

He was not the only player on those teams.

No. But we didn't have both with JR, despite all of the protestations from the coaching staff and fanbase.

If you remember correctly Mauch did the same during the Ole Miss game. I dont see your point. You are being quite vague. JR made mistakes as every QB but the Raiders and many other NFL teams see his potential. How many 1st picks in the draft actually won a championship anyway. They are mutually exclusive.:dis:

He does make mistakes but who doesnt? Arent you setting a very high standard here? Peyton Manning threw 7 INTs in the playoffs alone, well, he sure is a BAD QB in your dictionary. LSU lost early in the season, when our team was a MESS!! And you have to admit that. Tell me which QB will put up with that mess, our O-line was rated an E, and we had no running game at ALL!! Go back in memory to the Auburn game, forget about the bad ref calls, but WHY THE HELL did Jimbo Fisher kept running the ball when we were getting negative yardage from it. Russell did a good job passing the ball, and we should have passed much more from the BEGINNING, not in the forth quarter. And the Florida game was a BAD TEAM performance.
It was late in the season that our team became organized and had a good rythm, thats why they started talking about us after the Arkansas game as the most talented team in the nation. Russell had 2 seasons at LSU, and they were both good, luck didnt go in our way. I remember in 01, we were a 3 loss team and still won the SEC, and in 01 we were a one loss team, not undefeated. Russell is the only QB to guide us to back to back 10 win seasons, and went through one of the toughest seasons on LSU in 05 as a sophomore, and still managed 2 losses only, and injuring his shoulder in the last loss.

I was disgusted at several points with the fumbles. I was possibly more frustrated given his #1 talent. Yunno, "to whom much is given much is expected" and all that jazz.

Mauck did indeed throw a disastrous pick six to open the Ole Miss game on the road.

These are all good points. I'm just playing devil's advocate, to be more than honest with you.
