I assure you....I and most people from south Louisiana can comprehend it. All I know is that he's not the only one who experienced the hurricane, New Orleans is a charlie foxtrot, and in order for it to get better...everyone has to WORK to make it better.
Just thinking... Threads on here are rarely about the title of it and the content of the original post of the thread starter. What a great forum.
I assure you that I certainly can't. I have been in a nice stable home the whole time. Although I have been in and out of the New Orleans area countless times to help out friends and others in need, I have not lived through any of it personally.
I have immediate family still living in a trailer. They are retired on a fixed income and have not taken one cent in government aid. So, yes I can comprehend as can many others. I have a friend who lived in Lakeview and is now living in Alpharetta, Georgia. Another friend and her husband from Chalmette, lost their house, cars and even their dog and are now rebuilding their lives in Dallas. Don't look for any pity from me.
It evolves....just like all things great! Almost everyone here is passionate about their community, culture, and LSU.....can't help expressing our feelings where appropriate (or inappropriate!) :hihi:
Then consider yourself fortunate. But you should be able to COMPREHEND the situation if you've been to New Orleans to help your friends.
Ok, I'm gonna weigh in on this. I lost a house in Nola, but thanfully, was not living in it so I did not lose everything I have. What I got in insurance will not fully pay to rebuild my house even tho it has to be torn down, so we have to save $$ to do so. And I still feel fortunate. I did not donate money to onepeat, but have no problems with others who did so. It is their income, and that is a personal decision. It is not for me to judge how they spend it. If someone wants to spend it all on booze and ho's, fine with me. We have been giving 10% of our income to hurricane relief since September. That was our decision. I don't expect anything from it. I just hope that it helped people. And that it helped animals as a lot of it was given to the pet rescue organizations. But it was our decision to do that. If we had decided to give that amount to onepeat or to the Homeless Hookers Association, it would have been no one else's business. I cannot even begin to imagine what people like hotdog, or anyone else that had their homes and jobs in Nola and lost it all, have gone through. I have not yet seen my house even tho my husband has been down there to take care of things. I know that after this many months, I will not see anything like what was seen the first days and weeks after Katrina. If hotdog wants to lose it and takes offense at things said, I am gonna cut him slack. I don't know how hard it was, and only those that went through it all do. Hell, my emotions still get raw, and I have been comfortably here in Oklahoma the whole time. Rant over.
No. I have a better comprehension of it than some people. However, until I lay my head on a pillow at night in a strange bed in an awkward new "home" while the place I truly call home is unlivable.... I can not comprehend what they have gone through.
of course not... lm a law student 120k in debt. And yes l can bitch about it, because it makes my Alma Mater look like ****.
Perhaps....but perhaps it's also just your opinion that it makes LSU look like sh*t. But the bottom line is: If you didn't donate--keep your mouth shut reguarding what was done with the money. Although whining and b*tching is what lawyers do best....so, in that reguard, it sounds like you're well on your way to becoming an excellent lawyer. Good luck!
