its not crazy that he feels that way. he may feel LSU will lose 2 games and end up 11th or 12th. Nothing wrong with that. He may also feel FSU wont lose the rest of the way. Most of this comes from an inferiority complex. He doesnt believe in the OSU team at all and since he thinks they should have beaten LSU he thinks LSU is not a top 5 team. Just like I figured ....OSU would compete and possibly handle Boise early in that game...then total collapse. It wasnt hindsight...its what happens all the time in college sports. OSU was mentall shot by the 2nd half of that game though they jumped out 14-0 early. OSU is much better than they showed Friday night though probably wont play a more complete game than they did in Baton Rouge. They will execute somewhere in between from here out I suspect. Anyone notice this Boise a-hole coach and how he runs it up all the time? 4th and 8 up 22 points near midfield and he fakes a punt. Dude has braces and looks like a young Bruce Coslett. what a tool this guy is faking a punt up 22 with 7 minutes left in the game. But hey, how else will you get noticed in Idaho....he's trying to be noticed and wants a new gig.
I don't agree with running up the score, but I can understand it in the case of these mid majors. They can't just win and get ranked, they have to post huge scores against BCS conference teams in order to get a second notice. Right now Boise St holds the current longest win streak and the longest home winning streak. The coach has to do something to make some noise and get noticed. Maybe by showing the nation his team didn't just upset ORE ST but beat the piss out of them, they might get ranked. So I can understand mid majors that do this to BCS schools, they have to in order for the voter's respect. I do agree that I hate seeing teams run up the score, but at the same time these mid majors have to do something to get noticed . . . for them, just winning is not enough. And actually that guy has been coaching Boise ST for a while, and has turned down job offers from BCS schools.
He hasnt turned down any BCS job i know of because no one would hire him at a major school. Who told you that? 22 points is a blowout as much as 29 points. these media-heads can barely add so its all the same to them. but yes, as I stated, it is his intention to draw attention to himself and get hype and more pub, right or wrong. He's still classless either way.
You guys need to relax. The polls don't mean anything until the end. I remember the last time Bama won a championship(it seems so long ago....but of course in our minds...it was like yesterday)...we had 1 lone sportswriter that predicted Bama to win from the very first, but it was not until the end of the season when we had gone undefeated that everyone had to vote that way. You guys know you have a good team, and don't worry about these people. I only have one wish from you...........and believe it or not...it's not to have mercy on Bama(we're trying to come back...believe me)....Please oh Please give it to Auburn. In case of bad weather........how do ya'll play in the rain? I got the faith so please be strong, and shut them up.
I don't have a link, but I did watch the full game last Friday. During the broadcast the announcers (so take that for what it is worth) said Dan Hawkins, had turned down other coaching jobs that were offered from PAC 10 schools. So that is where I heard it. He has been coaching Boise St since '97, and has had success. There were at least 8 minutes left in that game, ORE ST was only down 3 TDs and had lost to this team in the past by coming back to win late in the game. Last year's game was decided by 2 points, and late 4th Qtr rally by ORE St. So, I think you can say Dan was covering his bets. By running that fake punt it put Boise St in position to score and finally take over the game. I don't think anyone here would rank Boise St in any top 25, no matter how many BCS schools they beat, so they need to win like that to get noticed. If you think the coach is doing this to get a better job for himself, then take a few minutes and type "Boise St football" at Google and I'm sure you will learn that he is quite happy at Boise St and they are very proud of the program they have. Should LSU have jumped to a 21 point lead over Ark St, then limited their playbooks in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th qtrs. trying as hard as possible not to score. We did win by 50 points, some would say we ran up the score on a much less talented team. Boise St faced a team that is supposed to be stronger, faster, and better than themselves . . . I have no problem with Dan's decision to call a fake punt and put the game away. ORE ST had their first team out there, and threw something like 25 passes in a row trying to come back.
Please do not try to convince me he was not running up the score faking a punt with 7 minutes left up 22. He was running his same offense at the end of the game and its well known throughout the coaching community that this is so. Its no secret. Its also well known Saban does not. Do not try to make an excuse or worse, compare Saban to this clown. He's happy at Boise? If you truly think hes happy at boise and doesnt want a higher profile job/salary then I really won't argue it. Its simple coach speak and try not to fall for it. he'd leave in a heartbeat.
tirk, oregon st is from the pac10. they can score in a hurry. 22 points is 3 tds with 1 2 point conversion. i think youre being too critical of the boise st coach. boise st's best defense is a good offense, so the whole theory for boise st is to score as many points as possible. they dont have lsu's defense. also, faking the punt gives boise st a chance to keep the ball out of oregon st's hands even longer. i thought boise st's coach was pretty damn impressive myself. as far as running the same offense throughout, saban runs the same defense throughout and demands his players to play hard regardless of the score. should saban just run prevent if the other team hasnt scored enough points?
can score in a hurry? jeez man this game was out of reach. he saw OSU was spent and quit. I saw this tool do this in many other games. its well known regardless if you are aware of this or not. But hey, believe what you want. I thought I wasnt gonna argue this. Do you believe this as well? Saban runs theh same offense with a big lead? I won't humor myself on this one either.
read... DEFENSE. saban runs the same DEFENSE. should he run the prevent when we are ahead by enough? i dont understand you complaining about trying to preserve the win against a PAC10 team. what is the PAC10 known for? explosive, high scoring offenses. boise st was an underdog in this game and i dont fault the coach for wanting to ensure victory.
