Sorry about the flame, just a little irratable watch Auburn in the Sugar Bowl... I like the "We Learned Stuff"... that cracks me up every time... wasn't that after the 52-9 OU win?
Miles has never been a public speaker. I don't know how you judge a coach based on how he acts or what he says after a huge rivalry game. Saying he's an idiot for being fired up for his team (like a FAN MAYBE?) really shows you lack something between your ears. BTW: Like I said many times, I have mixed feelings. But the fact is, Miles came to a program that was DOWN. Not Kansas State down, but VERY DOWN. It's not like Miles took over Texas A&M. He took over a program that had won 13 games in 3 years. A program that had been 0-10-1 just 9 years before. He took it from a 3-8 team to 4-7 then 8-4 then 9-4 then after losing the best offensive players next to the 1988 team, 7-5. Miles also beat more than just "OU". He beat the Big XII CHAMPIONS THREE OUT OF THE PAST FOUR YEARS. Think about that.
No problem, I am certainly not here to irratate any LSU fans, I just wanted to provide some of you with my opinion. I could be completely off and Miles will turn out to be a great coach, he has certainly shown us OU fans some glimpses of brilliance. The "We learned stuff" was after this seasons close loss, as was his "we will play any sucker in the country." He also liked the "resolve" of his team but it wasn't what he said so much with that one as how he said it. Like I said, he may turn out to be a great coach for LSU, I just know there were many times before, during or after a game all I could do was shake my head and laugh at Miles. It was before the 52-9 romp of OU over OSU that Miles made the infamous comment in his pre-game interview, "Let 'er rip!" Take care, Boomer Sooner!!
Miles is a good coach, not a great one. His two victories over OU were with Nate Hybl running the OU offense, that is no coincidence.Other than that, who did he beat? He has a habit of opening his mouth and pissing off opposing coaches. He called out Bob Stoops last season and got a 52-9 ass whipping for his trouble. He talks like Carl from the movie Slingblade. His press conferences will take 3 hours to complete after he uhs and duhs his way through every question. I have always held LSU and it's football program in high regard. Why you chose a coach that finished ahead of only BAYLOR in the Big 12 South is really puzzling. I trust you're familiar with the fact he had Texas down 35-7 at the end of the first half this year, and proceeded to give up touchdowns the next 7 Texas possessions in the second half? And THIS is the best you could do?
Exactly! The day I take the word on a Sooner fan with reguards to an Oklahoma State coach--especially one that beat OU, not once, but TWICE in a 4 year span, is the day that I put on an Gator's hat and tell everyone what an over-rated coach Spurrier is (and Gator blue and orange will NEVER crown my head!!!!)
From the perspective of an OSU fan and LSU fan/grad.... Miles was liked, as well as respected, (and still is) by true OSU fans like my father who has season tickets to everything and stays with OSU in good times and in bad. And in Football, the bad has been lots more than the good until Miles came along. The man has never done anything to embarrass OSU or put the school on probation and I don't believe he will at LSU. He's not that type of person. I think that is really important, because without that integrity and respect for the school and the game, some coaches would be tempted to "look the other way" in order to win and keep up with LSU's traditions on the football field. What ya'll see as little things add up to a lot for OSU and point to Miles being a good coach. OSU has only had 4 winning seasons since 1988 (no, that is not a typo, 1988) and 3 of those winning seasons were during the 4 years Miles was HC at OSU. In 2002, he beat Nebraska, the first for an OSU team since 1961 (yes, 1961) and that year was the first time EVER OSU beat Nebraska and OU both in the same year. And everyone knows he beat Stoops twice. Personally, I think OU fans are relieved to see Miles go although they still have to run him down. They don't call the games between OSU and OU "Bedlam" for nothing. The accomplishments I mention are HUGE for OSU. Miles did a lot with what he had and has the ability to do that much more with what LSU can offer. I have seen the fact that Miles had to recruit against OU and Texas, and be in the shadow of OU, dismissed. The best way I know to explain it is to think of OU/OSU as LSU/Tulane when it comes to football. It isn't that bad now - by far - because of Miles. But it sure as hell was before he came to OSU. OSU has a nicely renovated stadium and new facilities, which wouldn't have happened if the fans/donors disliked Les as has been suggested. He got a lot of $$ pumped into the program and is leaving a much nicer place in terms of infastructure than he inherited. I like and respect Les Miles. I wouldn't be happy to see him at LSU now if I didn't!
That's okay, you certainly don't have to take this Sooner fan's word for it! The seasons will play out of the next few years for you to see for yourself. Heck, I could really care less one way or another other than I am glad to see Miles out of the state of Oklahoma just because I thought he was an embarrassment. I don't have any hard feelings towards Les and this is certainly not sour grapes due to those two losses. I really have no agenda to serve here by saying this. I truly hope Miles works out for you guys! Take care, Boomer Sooner!!
