Oregon's D was just as good as the best two defenses in the SEC last year: the best defense in the SEC last year was Alabama (#1 total D, #1 scoring D, and #4 in the NCAA scoring D, #5 in the NCAA total D) Alabama's D held Auburn to 28 pts Oregon's D held Auburn to 22 pts Alabama's D held Tenn to 10 pts Oregon's D held Tenn to 13 pts not seeing a big difference between those two defenses LSU had the the #2 scoring D, #3 total D in the SEC (#11 in the NCAA scoring D, #12 in NCAA total D) the LSU D held Auburn to 24 pts Oregon's D held Auburn to 22 pts the LSU D held Tenn to 14 pts Oregon's D held Tenn to 13 pts not seeing a big difference between those two defenses of all the defenses Tennessee faced last year, only Alabama held them to less points (10) than Oregon did (13) of all the defenses Auburn faced last year, only Miss State (17) held them to less points than Oregon did (22), and Miss State was #3 in the SEC in scoring D last year when people think of Oregon, they think "O" for offense, but their D was the #12 scoring D in the NCAA last year. and Oregon fans expect that their D will be even better this year
apples to apples all of this will only get us through the summer - I am not going to join the Duck fan club with what Kelly has done since he has lost both big games ! He wins the Rose Bowl and beats Auburn then its a wow ! In both of those games his D did show up but the wheels came off the 40 pt yaya O he has. LSU plays a 31 - 17 type game and it holds up in the big games. Last year we beat the Gators at their place - Bama at our house - and A&M in the Cotton Bowl. The Ducks beat a very good Stanford team! I am seeing a team like the 07 Tigers taking the field this year and I hope to see something like the 07 VT game on Sept 3rd but you never know. If I was a Duck I would be drinking the kool-aid on Les being stupid and the Sec over-rated. But I am not buying the Pac-12 vs the SEC side show. The SEC West has the power with 3 national champs in the last 4 years. If you can tell me what the Ducks will do to win the game I will listen. Will they control the line and run the ball? Does Oregon have such a better coaching staff that they will just be that better prepared ? Do they have better athletes ? I can't give the Ducks and edge on many items - they might be close on a couple mainly thier offensive system and QB ! But I have seen LSU like Auburn in the big game shut down some very good systems. Duck thanks for coming by often and this is great long summer fun. After LSU flattens the Ducks do keep coming back.
Hey Duck lets break it down just a little DL - LSU vs DL - Oregon I give it to LSU we are young but 3 players - Anthony Johnson Sam Montgomery Barkevious Mingo are going to be amazing !! Defensive tackles: 77 Junior Josh Downs - 6'1, 278: 10 tackles, 2 TFLs (1 sack). 90 Sophomore Michael Brockers - 6'6, 300: 25 tackles, 1 TFL and one forced fumble. 93 Sophomore Bennie Logan - 6'3, 280: 5 tackles, .5 TFLs in three games. 91 Sophomore Chris Davenport - 6'5, 311: 1 tackle in two games. 9 Freshman J.R. Ferguson - 6'3, 286: redshirted in 2010. 56 Freshman Anthony Johnson - 6'3, 294: 129 tackles, 31 TFLs (17.5 sacks) as a senior at O. Perry Walker High School. Defensive ends: 94 Senior Ken Adams - 6'5, 255: 27 tackles, 2.5 TFLs (1.5 sacks) and one forced fumble. 89 Junior Lavar Edwards - 6'5, 265: 21 tackles, 4 TFLs (2.5 sacks), one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown. 99 Sophomore Sam Montgomery - 6'4, 250: 18 tackles, 6 TFLs (2 sacks) in five games. 49 Sophomore Barkevious Mingo - 6'5, 240: 35 tackles, 5.5 TFLs (2.5 sacks), 6 passes defended and one fumble recovery. 87 Sophomore Junior Chancey Aghayere - 6'4, 270: 21 tackles, 1.5 TFLs. 54 Sophomore Justin Maclin - 6'4, 240: 1 tackle in one game. 98 Freshman Jordan Allen - 6'6, 260: redshirted in 2010.
Davenport got moved to the offensive line. I read an article pointing out that LSU's interior line will be the biggest weakness on our D. and look at those guys you posted: how many combined sacks and TFLs did they have last year? 2.5 TFL and 1 sack? and these are the DTs that people expect to dominate? also look at their sizes: 278, 280, 286, 294, 300. none of those are close to the size of Oregon's blue chip DT Ricky Heimuli (321). Oregon's other DTs are 275, 285, 286, 289. i keep hearing people say that because Auburn's DL dominated Oregon, that our DL should do the same. well, Auburn had two DTs taken in the 2011 Draft, while none of LSU's DTs are expected to be taken in the 2012 Draft. and 2011 LSU doesn't have a DT that is the equivalent to the 2010 version of Nick Fairley, and Fairley didn't just dominate Oregon, he dominated LSU as well (against us, Fairley had 2.5 sacks, 3.5 TFL, 1 QB hurry, and 6 tackles)
SO Pac10 D stats are very much equal to SEC D stats? So the conferences are the same in your eyes? People get all butthurt when we say things like this, BUT IT IS FACT that we play the best week in and week out. With that said, Yea, Oregon had an EASY RIDE considering the RANKINGS WHICH ARE FACT.. It's no wonder you have good padded stats... No one doubt your O dood. I am sure it is better than ours. Get your panties out of your butt...
Davenport got moved to the offensive line. Yes he did - this was the spring game line up 90 Sophomore Michael Brockers - 6'6, 300 56 Freshman Anthony Johnson - 6'3, 294 Brockers will be at about 310 on game day and be a monster - it is not all about total weight Johnson will be 300 plus and play a major role you said: I read an article pointing out that LSU's interior line will be the biggest weakness on our D If you read that cool ! I think the inside with these 2 plus others and the edge pressure of Sam Montgomery Barkevious Mingo will give Oregon night-mares ! play the game DL LSU or Oregon who has the best DL on game day ?
