I am planning on some roadtrips this fall and the football team travels to both Oxford and Starkville. If I go to only one Mississippi school game which one should I go to?

Is Starkville really as bad as everyone says?? I am curious and kind of want to see for myself, would I hate myself for going there?

Go to Oxford!! Seeing the grove and tailgating Ole Miss style is a good experience. Starkville is one step below purgatory. A bunch of rednecks with those stupid cowbells.

I go to oxford every year because my brother went there and we all get together every year for the LSU/MISS game. I have been to Oxford about 3/4 times, and we have a good time every year. Especially the last time we played there, that was the year that Saban ran all the way across the field after the game to the endzone where the LSU fans were sitting. He ran over and held up his finger giving the #1, It was awesome. During the game we got really loud and helped in a few dramatic defensive stands. it was one of the coolest things ever. Anyone else at that game?

If you have never been to either I would suggest going to Oxford, but then again Stark-Vegas might not be there in 2 years. I am going to try to make it to both this year. My goal is to go to all SEC stadiums.

Yes, Oxford would be my vote. It is a pretty town and the stadium is a lot better than Miss.St., not that thats saying too much. Oh, and you wouldnt have to deal with the awful smell of cow manure while watching the game.

From Merriam-Websters, the definition of Stark:

    : BARREN, DESOLATE b (1) : having few or no ornaments : BARE <a stark white room> (2) : HARSH, BLUNT <the stark realities of death>

    You decide!

Go to Stickville only if you are deaf or love the sound of Cow Bells.

    First let me say this:
I went to Starkville for the LSU - Miss St. game 2 years ago. I must say I was not impressed. There was less atmosphere at that game than a typical friday night high school game over here (at least in my opinion). If I didn't know better, I would have never guessed there was a football game that night. Oh yeah, if they didn't have any cowbells, you could hear a pin drop in that stadium. All they did was ring those stupid bells. I hardly heard a person yell. Enough about that.

    Now to answer your question:
If I had my choice between Oxford and Starkville, I'd go to Oxford. Mostly because I have never been. Well, that and I really have no desire to go back to Starkville. Besides, LSU winning the game, the rest of it just wasn't that much fun. Like I said, no atmosphere.

I don't regret going. Overall it wasn't a bad experience at all, it just wasn't fun in the sense of "going on a road trip" fun. A lot of the fun of a road trip comes from the things you do outside of the game (being heckled by and heckling the other teams fans, going out the night before, etc...). Starkville just doesn't offer much in that regard. (it'll never compare to that Florida road trip hahaha)

If that is what you are looking for then i'd guess you might have a better chance of getting that in Oxford. But if all you care about is going to the game, then by all means go to Starkville. After all the game matters the most. :D

Oh and you would only hate yourself if LSU lost hahaha
