Conservatives are not the only ones who make money, Jethro. Think Rockefeller, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, and 162 other democratic billionaires in the country. And JD Clampett of Arkansas.
Exceptions to the rule. You left out Soros. I'm pretty sure Jed was a conservative. Conservative Truth - Jed Clampett and Rethinking the American Dream - Email of the Week - 2008-08-11
A Son of Confederate veterans in 1960 Arkansas . . . support the party of Abe Lincoln? You are thinking of Drysdale, Bodine.
I saw the headline of this article pop-up a few places on the web over the past couple of weeks, but the premise is so ridiculous that I assumed it was published by The Onion, and therefore dismissed it as satire. Now that I've read the article, I see that it's more mind-numbingly stupid than I could have imagined. Trying to link a causational relationship to such a minor occurrence that happened so many years prior in someone's life is beyond futile. Do you have any idea how many other things take place in someones life between the day that they went to a parade and the day that they register to vote? Why would it not be any of those other things? Maybe we can do a study and try to project the political leanings of children who celebrate their 16th birthday party at Pizza Hut? That's a lot less random, isn't is? But it's every bit as valid as the premise of this "study". So, it would be almost impossible to separate all of the variables, rendering data control all but obsolete. I've read a lot of articles about studies that have tried to link political leanings as an adult to all sorts of things about a person. Everyone one of them is a reach, but this one is easily the worst. I like how it says that someone is a whole 2% more likely to become a republican. I have no idea what the margin of error is, but it's got to be much larger than that. I actually wouldn't be surprised if this whole bit turns out to be a hoax. It just seems highly unlikely that some academic would willingly tarnish their own reputation with such hooey. If you find yourself actually believing or drawing conclusions from this drivel, you should really be alarmed.
Give the Republicans credit, they have done a wonderful job of painting themselves as Patriots and painting the Democrats as evil socialists. They have an extremely well oiled propaganda machine....
It's funny because if you take a step back the picture that is painted is Republicans love America (democrats hate America) Democrats Love Americans (republicans hate them, unless they are rich)
I think that is the picture you see from way out there on the left. Those of us in the middle see that Democrats and Republicans are pretty much equally terrible. Republicans and Democrats have one goal in mind, staying in power. The base they exploit is just a little different. I will say this, today the Republicans are marginally less wrong than the Democrats.
