I think a lot of it depends on what Pelini tells them. If Pelini says I would like the job, then Callahan is gone. He has done nothing there with his system and he has seen out his 1st recruiting class. To go from 9-3 with Solich's last season to what they are doing now, is enough to make the school, boosters, and fans more than upset and I believe the patience is gone. Of course Pelini may want to wait to see if UM comes calling for Les. If he thinks that might happen, he may try to stall Nebraska for a while. I believe if Les stays put and UM doesn't come calling and Pelini is offered the UN job, then he takes it. Just as I feel if UM offered Les the job, he would take it.
First off, I think Bo would be a great hire for Nebraska, and I'd much rather see him go there than to aggy. BUT, just to correct you, while Nebraska does have more MNC's than any one Texas program, you don't have more than the entire state. Just counting AP, Coaches, BCS: 1938 - TCU (AP) 1939 - A&M (AP) 1963 - Texas (AP, UPI) 1969 - Texas (AP, UPI) 1970 - Texas (UPI) 2005 - Texas (AP, BCS, USA/ESPN) So it's State of Texas 6 - Nebraska 5. Damn impressive by Nebraska though! Even if you toss out Texas -1970 as many people do, it's tied! Some people might toss in 1935 SMU since they finished the regular season 11-0, but that was the year the year before the AP started.
No, really I wasn't. And I meant no disrespect to Nebraska. I've always admired the program and especially the fans. But the days of domination that Nebraska enjoyed in yesteryear will be very difficult to replicate. Things are different. For years Nebraska played in a conference (Big 8) which in most years only offered Oklahoma as a viable opponent. That's not the case now. Hell, they can't even win their half of the conference. Recruiting kids to Nebraska takes a lot of work. The state of Nebraska only produces a handful of D1 prospects in a good year. They've got to go elsewhere to get them. No, it's not impossible. But it's not as easy as say, Texas. Mack can get enough D1 kids within 250 miles of Austin to be competitive every year. You can't do that in Lincoln. And the day of the Huskers cherrypickin' every national recruit they wanted are gone. Parity is what it is. More obvious this year than most. Other schools have what Nebraska has. Some years back, Nebraska's weight training program and facilities were the class of college football. No one could match their facilities. No so anymore. The arms race is what it is. Who knows what the right guy could do there ? A Pelini or some other young and coming coach might return them to respectibility soon enough but I don't think you'll see another era at Nebraska like Devaney or Osborne enjoyed. Sorta the same as the Alabama situation. Just my observations.
not trying to be a jerk, but there are some things in there that just arent correct. we can get good recruits. just look at our current class. just a couple of years ago we had the #1 rated class by one company. also when we were good, we really didn't have great recruiting classes and DID have a bunch of Nebraska kids. look at out 97 title team. almost our entire offense was from Nebraska. for such a little state we produce a lot of good players. my class in high school had 70 people, and yet I played with 2 kids that played in the NFL(one still is) also our facilities are still as good as they come. http://www.huskers.com/SportSelect.dbml?&&DB_OEM_ID=100&KEY=&SPID=22&SPSID=57698 also I do think you were selling the big 8 a little short there. if you look at the schedule of the title teams in the 90's you will see CU(they won the title in 90) was ranked, KU was ranked, KSU was ranked...... like I said, I'm not trying to be a jerk, a lot of the stuff I dont think people realize unless they are from the area. I will be the first to say I really dont know that much about LSU or the SEC outside of what I see on TV.
2 words for nebraska... PAUL JOHNSON.. bring back the option.. be something different... Yeah, I know.. the option offense won't work in the Big12... bullsh*t... Navy runs it with D3 players and beats BCS teams... give Nebraska middle level D1 players in that offense and they will win some games... I would love to see Johnson put together his passing offense from Hawaii with his running offense from Navy...
No jerkness noted Zuel. Welcome. A look at Nebraska's roster shows approximately 75 kids from out of state, about 47 from Nebraska. They have to go out of state to get 'em. Here are the Big 8 Champs from 1960 to 1995. The champion or co-champion was Oklahoma or Nebraska 32 outta 35 years. My point was that no one in the conference, other than Oklahoma, offered Nebraska much competition. I think it's evident that the Big 8 was really the Big 2 Little 6. 1960 Missouri 7-0-0 1961 Colorado 7-0-0 1962 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1963 Nebraska 7-0-0 1964 Nebraska 6-1-0 1965 Nebraska 7-0-0 1966 Nebraska 6-1-0 1967 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1968 Kansas 6-1-0 Oklahoma 6-1-0 1969 Missouri 6-1-0 Nebraska 6-1-0 1970 Nebraska 7-0-0 1971 Nebraska 7-0-0 1972 Nebraska (Oklahoma forfeited title) 5-1-1 1973 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1974 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1975 Nebraska 6-1-0 Oklahoma 6-1-0 1976 Colorado 5-2-0 Oklahoma 5-2-0 Oklahoma St. 5-2-0 1977 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1978 Nebraska 6-1-0 Oklahoma 6-1-0 1979 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1980 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1981 Nebraska 7-0-0 1982 Nebraska 7-0-0 1983 Nebraska 7-0-0 1984 Nebraska 6-1-0 Oklahoma 6-1-0 1985 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1986 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1987 Oklahoma 7-0-0 1988 Nebraska 7-0-0 1989 Colorado 7-0-0 1990 Colorado 7-0-0 1991 Colorado 6-0-1 Nebraska 6-0-1 1992 Nebraska 6-1-0 1993 Nebraska 7-0-0 1994 Nebraska 7-0-0 1995 Nebraska 7-0-0 As for the training facilities, my point was that Nebraska used to stand alone in that regard. I'm sure they still have great facilities. But they no longer stand alone. That's all. Stick around Zuel. We need a resident Husker. Again, welcome to the board. I appreciate your posts.
I wouldnt mid seeing the option come back, but with a little more focus on passing then with TO. really I dont care that much, I just want someone to toughen this team up. we are underachieving so badly. we are every bit as talented as the group of guys that should have beat auburn last year in our bowl. I dont think we have top 10-15 talent, but we are certainly top 25. NOW.... if you have actually seen us play, we are no were near being a top 25 team. our defense is horrible. our guys are uninspired. its very tough to watch.
he is gone. our AD had just signed a new deal as well. this is the worst team we have had in like 45 years
