I'm not sold yet on a Harvin-less Florida automatically running roughshod over everybody on offense. Their spread is designed for quick passes to single-covered receivers or backs in space. Harvin could take a 5-yard Tebow pass in the flat and take it to the house. It'll be hard to ask Demps to do that week in and week out at this point. Florida also has big-time O-line problems this year. Tebow has rarely had to scramble or make a play out of nothing, so a lot of Tebow's success has come from the push/protection that unit has been able to provide him. Look for defenses to blitz the hell out of him. If we get production at LB, that plays right into Chavis's hands and it could be a long night in Death Valley for Florida. Their D will be good, but how many times has it been called upon to win games for them? I haven't even gotten to that gigantic bulls-eye that a NC and #1 ranking does to a team and what it does for their opponents.
If Florida fans are picking them to maybe have one loss...and that one to LSU...and to be in the thick of the National Championship race, I wouldn't think they were smoking crack. I'd think that with all that talent returning, they're just being optimistic. After all, I was pretty optimistic last year because we had loads of defensive talent returning too...didn't we?. I wish them the same kind of reality doses we had last year. I wish that Tebow's next "promise" involves him promising not to cry in Baton Rouge ever again because twice in a lifetime was enough. I do wish them to avenge a huge loss in Tiger stadium by destroying Tennessee and smearing Kiffen and Orgeron's face in the mud .
They also have a terribly weak OOC schedule too. Most of the Gator fans have been saying that all through the offseason. One loss and it's going to be tough to keep that top spot going. They go with 2 losses and they can hang it up. On another note, I have heard (have no proof) that they're going to try and keep Tebow in the pocket and run more of a "NFL-Caliber QB" type of offense this year. Any word on that? Because if that's the case, I think it'll be alot of confusion of that UF offense
Guilbeau has a followup article on the Pensacola trip where I guess he got hold of a transcript. The complete Q&A has some good stuff. LSU Football: Unplugged on '09 Tiger Tour
If top talent and history was all it takes, then USC and Texas would win it every year . . . but they don't. Florida will have to earn every game and every opponent will be laying for them. And they play in a league where any team can win on a good day . . . look at Ole Miss last year--embarrassed them at home.
The main thing I got of this story, and music to my ears, is that we have a declared starting QB. To be honest with ya'll I was getting a little tired of the yearly, up to this point, dodging that we got on that subject. I prefer knowing to not knowing, and I'm sure Jefferson appreciates the support from CLM as well.
