I thought about that when I typed it out. The thing with Tedford though is that he toiled under Belotti at Oregon for a few years. He showed loyalty and then got his chance at Cal. I am not saying he would never leave Cal, but he seems very happy there. Then again, Saban has built LSU into an elite program, so the job has to have big time appeal to any applicant.

Forget Spurrier. He has a signed deal in place anyway. Not only that, he'd ruin the LSU program unless he surrounded himself with great people.

Maybe it was a little harsh. What I meant to say was that if Spurrier didn't bring in the right people, he wouldn't be a good coach. This would bring down the program. Sorry for the confusion. Either way, it doesn't matter. He is probably locked up. No reason to dwell on that loser. I don't like him. That's all.

That's probably what you should have said from the start, that you didn't like him. I figured that anyway. Like him or hate him, the man can coach. I've researched his record at Florida and the man is "THE MAN". I would put aside the fact that he isn't the most classy coach and welcome the likes of him anyday. He's a proven winner.

Any coach that doesn't have good assistants to both coach and recruit will tear down a program, fast. There's not a coach in the world that doesn't rely heavily on his assistants. Ask Belichik how much he loved having Saban as his DC, or Ask Carroll why he pays Chow more than any assistant in the country.

    "Executive search committee"?? Scary ...

Don't like the sound of that. Skip is an experienced, knowledgeable guy, and should have enough contacts in the field to already have a fairly short list. If he doesn't, that isn't good. Lots of interesting names being bandied about, here's my take. On the "nice to fantasize about, but simply unrealistic list," I'd put Spurrier, Del Rio, Shanahan, Gruden. On the "great candidates, but not likely to leave their present situation list, " I'd put Ferentz, Tedford, Petrino. On the "thanks, but no thanks, list," I'd put Tuberville, Miles, West, Leach, Bowers. On the "injured reserve list," I'd put Butch Davis.

My choice would be ..... Rich Rodriguez. If he's not interested, then it could turn into a wide-open crapshoot, where even NFL coordinators are given a hard look-see (Mike Nolan, Romeo Crennel, Gary Kubiak.) I think college football blows the NFL away -- much more passion and interest, much less predictable. Nick will find out he made a big mistake, but it's his life and career. So those who say the NFL is a step up, etc., give me a break. Your games are boring, the piped in music, the obnoxious louts, it's a depressing game atmosphere.

Jack Del Rio is a helluva intriguing candidate, but I just don't see him leaving the NFL. :lsug: :laflagwav :usaflagwa
